'film Girls interested in art, show their creative ability in craft work. Girl's Crafts consisted of twenty girls, which were divided into two sections. One group met on Monday, thc othcr met on Wednesday. Craft work included such projects as batik, en- arneling, stenciling, and textile work. The girls. also worked on making earrings, pins, cuff-links, and pictures. This group is under the direction of thc art supervisor, Mr. Carl Mengert. Stars Behind the Scenes 1 ff 291 Hold it steady! Props are made by the steady hands of the stage crew boys get- ting ready for the next performance. The stage crew boys were kept busy painting flats for background, installing incidental lighting, ,and taking care of curtain calls at plays and assemblies. A stage crew member assisted anyone who used the stage for a program. They took care of the lights and public ad- dress system. Their work was done during study hall, after school, and after supper. At their meetings each Thursday, repairs were made on the props, supplies were accounted for, and an in- ventory was taken. Advisor of this group was Mr. Richard Bice. What We Do Makes ld Look New Through this activity old furniture was made to look like new. Participants brought their own furniture from home. They learned the process of refinishing the furniture and give it an attrac- tive new coat of varnish or paint. This activity met on Tuesday in the industrial arts room under the supervision of Mr. Richard Bice. Thirty-nine students were participants in this group, Refinishing old furniture is quite a task, but the participants think the finished product is worth the time. 43
