x..a.L 3' is Gan.y'u.r5 :forex em Full Jtmm ahead' The 1959 football campaign was the most successful one at Edgemont so far The Panthers won three games whlle dropplng four Thls record IS hardly dlsgraceful when we conslder that Edgemont played most of its games wrth I5 ball players Edgemont defeated Croton 1n the first game of the year 21 6 Thls was the Hrst tlme that Edgemont had won an opener and the first txme that we have beaten Croton Marc Shenker scored twlce and John McCurdy once as the Panthers got off to a Hylng start In Ardsley s foot ball debut on our field the Panthers walked all over the opposxtlon for a 26 O vlctory Again Marc Shenker tallled tWlCC and McCurdy and Bronsteln scored once aplece At Hendrlck Hudson, the Panthers were defeated 6 O Whlle Hendrlck Hudson d1d have a good team slx tlmes Edgemont mlscues stopped potentlal scormg drlves After thls loss, an aroused Dobbs Ferry team defeated Edgemont 27-0 Edgemont rebounded from these two losses to overpower a weak Brxarchff team 21 I3 Brlarcllfif took an early I3 7 lead, but Edgemont poured ln I4 polnts ln the final quarter to pull out the wln Irvington defeated the Panthers after Edgemont had tled It up 7 7 at the half by outscorlng Edgemont I3 6 1n the second half Marc Shenker and ohn lVIcCurdy scored for Edgemont In the final game of the year at Izlmsford Fdgemont played its poorest first half of the year and one of IIS best second halves However, the team couldn t overtake Elmsford once they had scored IQ polnts 1n the first half Edgemont came rlght back to score I3 polnts 1n the fourth quarter, but the rally fell short as Alexander Hamllton held on to wm I9 I3 The Most Effort award went to co captaln Tom Smlth and senlor end Mlke Abruzese The Most Valuable Player award went to left halfback Marc Shenker Shenker scored 49 polnts lnclud mg three two touchdown performances unlor fullback Pete Bronstein was elected captaln for the 1960 season Fred Strlfe, a senlor end was voted All Western Westchester League honors, and Marc Shenker recelved honorable mentlon ln the ballotlng Imminenl T.D.
