The year brought new insight to parking lot at- tendants, clothes, hair styles, rules and regulations, classes, sports and clubs. The student body contributed the most to this fascinating school year. Fall came, school began, and everyone finally realized that their summer was over. The first real surprise of the year came quickly. Students were told it would no longer be free to park in the student parking lot. There was going to be a charge of twenty dollars a semester. Without the sticker purchased in the front window, the students, car could be ticketed and tow- 2 i OPENING ed, at the owners expense. There were a few complaints but, eventually everyone pretty much got used to the idea. The fall also brought new fashions for both guys and girls. Sometimes the fashion for guys and girls was so similar it didnit matter who wore what. Of course, there was the traditional jeans and sweatshirts but, what about the flourescent shirts, pants and shoes worn mainly by the girls. The guys, it seemed, became more aware of fashion. They spent more money and time picking out their wardrobes. Guys wore baggy pants, big sweaters and the traditional clothes. Girls wore anything from boxers to a Year! long underwear, full skirts to tight dresses and traditional outfits to all out new wave or punk outfits. Throughout the whole year fashion was new and exciting with the theme on individuality. Interscholastic competition during the fall season was overall successful. There was the introduction of two new teams this year. First, was the girls soccer team. With a varying level of skills on the team, the girls did very well. The second addition was the math team. With practices and competition difficult, the new math team also did well. The traditional competitions such as; football, volleyball, band, soccer, cross country running and swimming also had good seasons. Soon winter was upon the school and the cold was felt everywhere. Even with the crowded halls the school seemed cold. Most of the sports were started and doing well by the time winter break rolled around. Many surprises enlightened the student body during winter. Lunch was a new surprise when the school introduced a new ethnic line of food. There were entrees from Italy, China and Mexico. The cost of the ethnic food was a dollar- fifty for an entre, sidedish, bread and milk. When the new food line came out, it seemed as though there was never enough food for everyone. But eventually the students didnat eat as much of the ethnic food. Then there was enough for everyone. Something else new was also introduced at lunch time. The administration decided to abolish the token system. No one knows exactly why the i6Arne Chipil disappeared, but it was rumored that there werenlt enough tokens for all the students. Winter competition also did well the past year. Hockey, basketball, one-acts, skiing and all other sports had at least a fair season. Some sports had better seasons than others. There was much Eagle spirit backing all competition throughout the school. The middle of winter hit the school hard. There were temperatures in the negatives and not much was happening. Everyone began to dream of their own spring break and what they were going to do. Before they knew what hap- pened spring break was over and the fourth quarter began. Fashion last spring was as interesting as the new fall fashions. Everyone was wear- ing their own individual outfits. The snow melted and spr- ing was hopping. The spring play began as did the spring sports. There was promise for the play, golf, track, tennis, baseball and softball teams. Spring also brought the ex- citement and tension of prom and graduation. Couples were excited about going to prom while others who didnlt have dates felt the tension of whether they would end up going or not. After everyone made it through prom, the seniors realized they had only about a month of high school left. Tension built as they prayed to pass all their classes. Excitement grew for that ceremony that ends their high school career. Overall the 84-85 school year was one to be proud of. Congratulations to all who made it through the year! At the games and events students are asked to show their spirit by supporting the home teams. The students are always filled with a lot of en- thusiasm. Having fans yell for the teams boosts the morale and makes the players work harder, towards 3 Eden Prairie victory. Having a school with a lot of school spirit real- ly makes a school a fun place to be. Top left: Welcome to Fantasy Island. Above: E.P. models show of next years Freshmen wardrobe. The junior attendants Stacy Moen and Derek Hugdahl, and Diane May and Tim Bierman followed. Then came the hopeful senior candidates Barb Brill and Jim Rasmussen, Kelly Boyer and Tim F arley, Tracy Wagner and Keith Jackson, Janelle Geason and Mark Nelson, Stephanie VanAsten and Rich Stans, and finally Katie Makie and Chris Martinson. There was a pause in the ceremony to let the last yearis king Steve Berg and queen Angie Geason take their last walk down the aisle to give their crowns to this yearis king and queen. Tension mounted as Keith Jackson was chosen king. The Geason tradition was continued when Janelle was chosen queen. There were many new stars that made it big this year. A few are: Corey Hart, Huey Lewis and the News and Madonna. There were also some big comebacks. Such as: Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Tina Turner. These big comebacks were followed by an increase in the video world. Many all time selling highs were broken this past year. New awards were handed out and popularity of stars strengthened. With all the great things happening today in music, the music listener has even better things to look for in the future. Harburg Harold Arlen Mitche11 Parish Peter DeRose Herbert Stothart 16 OPENING OPEN w 17 0ne Act Play Once again, hard work and determination paid off for the high school one act, which took second in both Regional and Sub-Regional competition. The play was called tiluview and was about a night in a juvenile detention center. As the story progressed, the audience learned what crime each person committed through the use of monologues and mime. The cast consisted of eight characters, which included: Charley Knapp as Gene, Kim Waterbury as Pinky, Lowell Lund as Skip, Jill Waterbury as Carey, Jill Tyson as Philly, Paul Schmidtlein as John Doe, Mara Voelke as Sunny, Jef Hall as Andrew, and Shawn Janes as the guard. Jen Kenyon, Don Pavelka, and Dean Petersen were the crew for the play. Connie Grandmason and Tracy Finanger were the make-up and support personnel. The goal for the cast was to make it to State, but they were happy to take second place in the Regionals. l8 OPENING J im, the Ticket Man There was something new to protest at the high school this year, parking per- mits. Starting first quarter the school administration instituted a new policy where a student who wanted to drive a car to school had to pay Jim Jammes lknown as Jim, the ticket manl $20 a semester to park their cars and have them babysat. Many students thought it was a dumb idea. Many parents, on the other hand, thought that if their child was going to drive their brand new 2802 to school they would want some type of protection for their car. Jim Jammes seemed to be the solution. Protecting cars was not his only duty, though. He also stopped students from leaving school during school hours if they didnit have one of those little slips of yellow paper. Many of you will remember times when you tried to get away and he caught you. Maybe next year you wonlt have to pay to have your cars watched, and maybe they will get rid of parking lot at- tendants altogether. Either way, Jim Jammes, the ticket man, will be greatly missed. Thank you Jim, for your hard work. OPENING l9 emories to I 7i .4 4;; 20 OPENING Last Forever OPENING 21 Eden Prairie Band J azzes Up the School 22 OPENING g E, . g3? Q4. ' V J. OPENING 23 Prom A Night to Remember It was bigger than ever and more exciting than anyone ex- pected. What was it? Prom, of course! The Grand March started things rolling at 7:00 followed by an 8:00 dinner. Many couples stayed and danced to the music of Visions. The cost for this fun filled night was $50 per couple. According to some prom goers, getting ready and seeing everyone dressed up was a thrilling part of the night. It was also said by many that the 1985 Prom was one night they would never forget! 21, UPENINU OPENING 25 Class .1, IAW t r W ,3 a VAR 922141514 fofzq W W144 V i 2 21a igfyki zatiggigzyi 1E8 k MN 5 W aheew hl'wp Vx .. We experienced lots of new things. We became more involved with our school and with other related activities such as; sports, newspaper, plays, and how- to-quit-smoking meetings. Almost everyone experienced the thrill of getting the forever-waited-for licenses. Sure, there were a few people who took more than one, two or ever three times to pass a but whoas counting? The reasons were phenomenal. Everything from running over mailboxes, to parallel parking, to yes, even running over people! But once we passed we were at last free. We may have experienced our toughest year in high school. Most of us got a cold slap in the face when our counselors made us realize that there is college after high school and we must start preparing. We became more aware about our grades, future and of ourselves. We also experienced our first real paying jobs. The new Target store, which opened in Oc- tober, was where many students worked. Places such as Burger King and McDonald's were also very popular. It was just a typical year for a Sophomore. But, next year itas going to be even better! 54 a SOPHOMORES SOPH f0 00 V A m 0' a d fa .. hazy 4?... hi? :4? .4xw; SOPHOMORES 4 55 56 SOPHOMORES Tom Aarestad Colin Akehurst Erik Albrecht James Amoe Kristin Andersen Andy Anderson Lynn Anderson Paul Anderson David Andreasen Peder Angvall Jill Armstrong Dan Aszmann Debbie Atkinson Kurt Baht Chris Bain Bob Bakken Kate Barker Kathy Barth Shawn Beauchane Angie Becker Dan Bedford Mark Belles Thad Bennett Bill Bernstrom Brett Berntsen Dave Best Cory Beyer Heidi Bierman Wess Bigelow Brian Bjonfald Bobby Black Cory Blad Greg Bode Rosemary Borrink Scott Bowman Diane Brady Susie Brandt Duane Braunworth Jill Britney Kelsey Brown Jennifer Brownlee Paul Burke Debbie Burnett Jeff Burquest Tony Cable Tim Cady John Campbell Lee Ann Carlson Courtney Carstens Steve Check Neeraj Chepuri Lisa Chiavam John Clark Scot! At the present time it is composed of Mary Strampe, the coach, and seniors, Tom Lundberg, Jodea Judson, and Wendi Platz. The Debate Club, like other teams, travels to other schools to compete. The meets are usually on Fridays and Saturdays. They usually run 3-4 rounds and last for several hours. Several schools compete at each meet. The Debate Cluh uses the Lincoln-Douglas Format. Many of you are familiar with this format from your freshman English class. It is called 66one per- son debate,9 because there is only one debater on each side. Each team member spends weeks researching and writing their speeches. The debater must he prepared to debate each side. Three minutes before the debate, the judges will tell you which side Bottom row: Tom Lundberg. Top row: Wendi Platz, Jodea Judson. Debate you will be debating and you have three minutes to prepare. The committee is set-up so members can par- ticipate when they can. Meetings are held when a specific decision has to be made. Some of them were: what band to have, where to hold the prom tit was decided to have it at the Sheraton Park Placet, the din- ner menu, what day to have the prom and what to sell to raise money. We decided to have a Valentineas dance with the Bedrock band. They were a big hit and helped to keep the price for the prom tickets down. A lot of time and effort was given by the peo- ple 0n prom committee to make the prom of 1985 affordable, fun, and worthwhile. If you went to prom this year you knew what a success it was. Senior Tracy Tomczik if The yearbook staff would like to dedicate these two pages of poems to the Seniors. the Class of I985. 166 e CLOSING ribute Stay in Touch Don9t Be Afraid to Fail Youive failed many times, Although you may not remember. You fell down The first time You tried to walk. You almost drowned The first time You tried to swim, DidnTt you? Did you hit the ball The first time You swung a bat? Heavy hitters, The ones Who hit the most home runs, Also strike out a lot. R. H. Macy failed seven times Before his store in New York Caught on. English novelist John Creasey Got 753 rejection slips before He published 564 books. Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, But he also hit 7 1 4 home runs. Donit worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss When you donit even try. Unknown These days, our lives Are becoming too Impersonal; Relationships too Fragile. Friendships should Be nourished, Not allowed to wither. So why not Get in touch today With someone you Care about. A high school classmate. A neighbor from your Home town. A former business Associate. Your scout leader. A childhood playmate. A favorite teacher. Your mother Brother, aunt. Make an effort. Keep the people whoTve Been important to You a part of your life. Put this down and pick up A pen or a phone. Yougll be glad you did. Unknown CLOSING y 167 168 a CLOSING x The beauty has disappeared. The light has turned to dark And stars in the sky, cannot be seen As the truth now lies, hidden. The cooler wind chills one. The white now comes to help Cover, and clear the forest The white fights hard for happiness. The white only wants joy. Try to remember back - Children and laughter, together were one As the white always created magic. The sweet innocence falls From the sky. One believes The white comes from the heavens - To ereate peace, and a new outlook. The white resembles so much Like the mind, forgetting the past Covering and freezing. Old feelings need the white to die. No more flowers or green walks And the warmth e Never again And as cold as you, the winter Will be distant and wild. The white falls silently Not wicked, just mild For to forget is to slowly cover up The roads that once were walked together. A feeling, hard to admit One waits to really see The white that falls To help forget, protect, and to Begin a new. You donit want your high school student to use this on you, do you? CLOSINGY 169 After a while you learn The subtle difference Between holding a hand And chaining a soul. And you learn That love doesn9t mean leaning And company doesnot mean security. And you begin to learn That kisses aren't contacts And presents aren,t promises. And you begin to accept your defeats With your head up and your eyes ahead. With the grace of a woman or a man Not the grief of a child, And learn to build all your roads on today Because tommorrowos ground is Too uncertain for plans And futures have a way of falling down In mid-flight. After a while you learn That even sunshine burns if you ask too much. So you plant your own garden And decorate your own soul Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn That you really can endure, That you really are strong And you really do have worth. And you learn. And you learn With every goodbye You learn . . .
