3. f- 'rn Fl'v'quJu' - 1.1 DEDICATION She sits at a piled desk at the front of her room which is traditionally scattered with paintings, posters and ceramic sculptures. As she moves around the room giving instruction and answering questions, one begins to see her multifaceted role as an art teached at EPHS. A graduate of Central High School in Minneapolis, Mrs. Stewart embarked on an art and design career at the University of Minnesota. Several years later to the benefit of Eden Prairie Schools, she decided to become an art teacher. Aside from the individualized instruction of her daily teaching, Mrs. Stewart has volunteered her time and talent to most school functions that require an artistic touch: Prom and Banquet committee, hall wall painting and graphics, campaign posters, extensive sets for stage productions, showcase displays, and design and layout for publications. Perhaps, however, what will be remembered most is her genuine kindness and thoughtfulness. We have fondly referred to Mrs. Stewart as the solo sunshine committee because she always managed to make the effort to paint the farewell card, order the congratulations cake, or collect for the flowers. HOMECOMING '78 Everybody had spirit! But the sophomore class was unique in winning many of the contests. They left the pepfest winning the hall decorating, float competition, and much to the dismay of the seniors e the Spirit Jug. They were also on the winning team with the juniors in girls touch footbball. The freshmen won the contest for highest yearbook sales. And, the juniors showed up the rest and won the pony express by a nose. The school showed its great spirit in all homecoming activities. The dress-up days as tiny tots, western, formal, and traditional red 3; black filled the halls with enthusiasm. Even the seniors, never having been noted for their spirit, deserved an award for their combined efforts in challanging the other classes in the week's activities. Coronation added a touch of class to the week of western festivities as Terri Shold and Jeff Eaton were crowned as homecoming royalty. The agony of defeat was felt in both the homecoming football game and volleyball matches against Buffalo. But girls and boys cross-country gave our school the thrill of victory when they won against Mound and Orono. The smiles on peoples faces showed we were proud, through thick and thin. The week ended with a bang as Night Train played at the homecoming dance held unusually in the cafeteria. The atmosphere was a western main street and all enjoyed it. For most it was a very long week, as late hours kept everyone from sleep. Looking back though, all would agree it was fun and will long be remembered. x $4.12 E72 f 3714?;51? 2: :2' ' fix sanIRE5 ! The squad got off to a slow start, placing fourth in their conference with a 4-4 record but were able to put it all together and end their season with a 7 game winning streak. We've captured here only a fraction of the enthusiasm and form of the team. Even though five runners had to be replaced from last seasons State Meet team, they still re- peated as the Suburban West Conference Champions, placing four runners; senior Tim Wilson, senior Sean Wakely, junior Mark Hansen, and freshman Dave Du- vick on the all-conference team. The Eagle runners continued their con- ference undefeated record that began during the 1976 season. The boys J.V. team went undefeated this season and capped off the outstanding season by taking the top seven places in the con- ference J.V. meet, thereby compiling a perfect team score. Led by senior Co- captains Sean Wakely and Tim Wilson the trademarks of this team were consis- tency and team balance. The Eden Prairie Girls Cross Country team won their first Suburban West Conference Cross Country Championship this season in only their second full sea- son. They were undefeated in the con- ference and won the Buffalo Invita- tional, the Delano Invitational and placed second in the New Prague Invita- tional. Five of the girls made the all- conference team. They were Laura Geason, Pam Van Guilder, Cheryl Brue- sehoff, Sharon Selander, and Audrey Staurum. Laura Geason capped off a great season qualifying for the state meet. The Girls Cross Country has been a steadily growing sport for the past two years and has become more successful each year. Kathy Empson was the only senior so we have a strong returning team to look forward to next year. 59 9$ Row 1: S. Kahn, J. Nelson, A. Bren, S. Donovan, B. Henderson, B. Larson, J. Elder, P. VARSITY The 1978 football Eagles started the season, after a hard summer of practice, with an optimistic view of things. Their inexperience and smallness is stature proved to be a disadvantage, though. With Chaska, Hutch- inson, and Mound topping the schedule, it was tough for the young eagle team to get rolling. Three defeats were the result of those first three games. The determined Eagles were never out of the next five games. Hin- dered by mistakes, they could not put together four quarters of football. As the season progressed every game was closer to victory. Such as the New Ulm game where the score was tied only until the last two minutes of play. Or the Orono game where the Eagles came from behind and pulled ahead of the Spartans only to be de- feated by a mistake and a touchdown. The Eagles could taste victory as the last game against Glencoe came. Nothing was going to stop the Eden Prairie Eagles and a hungry bunch of seniors. After an exciting four quar- ters of play, finally, the teams were tied at zero. The winning field goal in overtime gave Eden Prairie their well deserved win and taught a lesson to all which said, Never Say Die . 61 W n W Row 1: C. Sackett, J. Beyer, P. Van Guilder, A. Rogers. The singles squad of Beth Bertleson, Beth Hustad, and Kathy Nelson were very in- strumental in the 3 victories. First year coach Mary Ann Christianson believes that E.P. will be tough to beat in '79 because only one team member will be graduating from the young varsity line-up. The girls ended their season with a fine showing at the conference tourna- ment; Beth Bertleson took 4th place at a very strong first singles position and Beth Hustad took second at second singles. Julie Erickson and Kathy Nelson took the consoluation round at first doubles. Senlor captain Julie Erickson was voted MVP with Beth Bertleson receiving the most improved player award. But from that point on the team caught fire and won 5, tied 1 and lost 3. The hockey team showed tre- mendous courage and played in- spired hockey to turn their win-lost record around the second half of the season. Many things can be said about this team but one thing will stand out-they never quit and played some of the most exciting hockey since hockey be- gan in Eden Prairie. This hockey team has layed the corner stone for the buiding of winning hockey teams to come. The seniors leaving this team will be missed. They are: Joel Marpe, Dave Carpenter, John Summer, Scott Har- ris, Mike Salentine, Steve Sopczak N .w and Marty Kaye. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY ADS LIONESSES Congratulate the Class of 1979 139 140 Everybody is familiar with the friendly whine of electric motors in everyday life. The pleasant hum of the electric shaver or hair dryer. But. what hidden force turns the steady. slow revolutions of a gas station sign on a cold. windy night? How about the spinning spreader. casting sand behind the highway truck on an icy road? What secret motor spins all those wet. sloppy brushes in a car wash? Chances are high that the hydraulic motors doing these often wet and messy jobs. have been manufactured by Eaton Corporations Minneapolis Division in Eden Prairie. Minnesota. Char-Lynn hydraulic motors convert on pressure into rotary motion. Oil entering motor must turn a shaft before passing through. a principle similar to walking through a turnstile in a drug store. How does the Char-Lynn motor touch your life? Consider the lowly catsup bottle on your cupboard shelf. A Char-Lynn hydraulic motor probably turned the giant pivoting sprinkler system that irrigated the tomatoes in California. A Char-Lynn hydraulic motor probably powered many parts of the picker that gently removed the fruit from its vine. A Char-Lynn hydraulic motor moved the conveyor that loaded and unloaded the tomatoes in the truck. In the cannery. a Char-Lynn hydraulic motor moved the tomatoes to and from the cookers. A Char-Lynn hydraulic motor even worked with the bottling machine. conveyored the cased bottles to the warehouse. etc.. etc. At the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, the motor never speaks a line. but it revolves the stage so the show can go on. Next time you put catsup on a hamburger or run your car through a car wash. give the Char-Lynn motor a kind thought. It does a lot of work in a lot of places to make life a little easier. And it doesnt get 1nor requiret a lot of attention.
