The 1974 football season started with two non-conference victories, a shutout of Waconia, and peaked with a surprising victory over Mound. From there the season went downhill. After a disappoint- ing loss to Shakopee, the Eagles barely passed by Orono. Then the season ended with three sound defeats. At Mankatd East, the first game of the season, Eden Prairie came back from a 7-0 halftime deficit, capitalizing on a fumble recovery for the first TD. A 25 yard pass play from quarterback Jeff East to Greg Yee gave the Eagles their second touchdown, and a third was set up by a 50 yard East to 19 Mankato 14 8 Lakeville 7 EP EP EP 24 Waconia 0 EP 14 Mound 12 EP 14 Shakopee 22 EP 20 Orono 19 EP 14 Buffalo 29 EP 8 Glenco 16 EP 0 Chaska 32 Marty Raths pass play. At Lakeville, a 40 yard touchdown pass from East to Raths late in the fourth quarter, plus a two point conversion was all that was needed to gain a narrow 8-7 victory. After shutting out a hapless Wac- onia team, the Eagles faced Mound, formerly of the tough Lake Conference. As 8 to 1 underdogs, the Eagles needed to play a solid game to stay in contention for the championship of the newly formed Suburban West Conference. The game, played at Eden Prairie, pro- vided fans with the best play of the season.
