The conference schedule was completed. The first game of the District 18 playoffs against Minneapolis Vocational loomed for the Eagle Basketball Team. They emerged with a victo'ry, 58-34 and advanced to the District Quarter finals. Their season ended in the hands of Orono where the Eagles were convincingly beaten, 73-42. The victory over Vocational did two things; it provided some relief from the previously unbroken list of defeats accumu- lated in a long season of winless nights containing only a speckling of almosts, and it perhaps helped some to see what Coach Bill Holte had known all along -- that the sea- son was not totally futile. Why would a team carrying a 0-17 record even TRY to win one or two more games? Pride, determination, the refusal to quit, even when many perhaps didn't care if they did quit. Holte said of the team, that they never quit:' and worked as hard as any I have been associated wi The most remembered almost was a 42-43 overtime loss to Shakopee. The Eagles had held the lead most of the game, but couldn't quite seem to finish things off. Coach Holte felt that points, rebounds -- and mistakes, were evenly distributed around the team, and did not want to single out individual players for special praise. Chris Gea- son was named to all-confer- ence Honorable Mention. TOP LEFT: Geason jumps alone. TOP RIGHT: Marty Raths astounds the crowd. LEFT: David Kasid Watch this, Mom . ANTHONY CHASKA PRIOR LAKE WATERTOWN ROSEMOUNT 22 Eden Prairie wrestlers pinned down one of their best years. They started off on the right foot, as they eamed the takedown championship. The Eagles won all dual meets except one a 27-18 loss to Prior Lakel. Their undefeated Valley Conference Record gave them the conference championship. Throughout the season the team improved. Doug Bundy and Jim Agrimson were undefeated throughout the conference. As the Eden Prairie wrestlers went through the districts they fell to the flu bug but still advanced four Eagles to regions. They were Jeff Holte 4th, Steve Molitor 5th, Doug Bundy 5th, and Jim Agrimson 5th. In regions Eden Prairie placed 3rd. Bundy showed hopes of going to state as he beat the 73 state champ, but unfortunately Eden Prairie advanced no one to state. Eagles who were named to the all conference team were, Mike John- stone, Steve Molitor, Jeff Holte, Kendal Larson, Gerry Howard, Jim Agrimson, and Doug Bundy. The most valuable award went to Jim Agrimson- the second time he has been so honored. A pretty good sea- son for our matmen!
