One of the School Boards main proiects in c continually growing school system is the construction of new buildings and sites. A new elementary school is planned for com- pletion by September, 1969. It will be located in the Kings Forest area. Other activities ofthe Eden Prairie Faculty Organization include 0 Get Acquainted PicnicH held in the fall and a HForwell Picnic in the spring. This yeorts projects included a successful Homecoming, a re- vision of the dress code, a student phone, a Town Meeting to discuss a youth center in Eden Prairie, Sno-Doze activities, and a future goal of building a school in a foreign country in coniunction with the Peace Corps. Although participation of all students is not ex- tensive in the Council, communication between stu- dents and teachers, and between students has greatly improved, fulfilling partially the goals of the Student Council. Student Perplexed Wilson lea 5 Student Council. : 11 i9. : E i5: i i m: Governments Reach Goals The Junior High Student Council was headed very successfully this year by Nancy Lowe-Pre- sident, Mark Miller-Vice President, Terry Tollefson-Secretary, and Heidi Holte-Trea- surer. The activities of the Junior High Student Council this year included a United Fund Drive, the sponsoring of several Junior High dances, and participation in the Town Meeting for an Eden Prairie Youth Center, in which they organ- ized their own groups and showed much interest. The basic goals of the Junior High Student Council are better communication between stu- dent and administration and discipline among the students. It has been the duty of every Council member to take an active part in stopping poor conduct and it seems they have done an excel- lent iob. 45 Junior High Student Council N. Lowe, conducts meeting. Tippy came from Chieng Mai, Thailand where she left her brother, 3 sisters and parents. Her father works in an office for a mining com- pany and her mother, a housewife, Hdoes the same things mothers do in the U.S. She finds Eden Prairie,s school classes quite different and exhausting. In Thailand, the teachers get the ex- ercise by moving from class to class instead of the students. Yet, she enioys attending school here very much. The courses in American schools are about the some as those given in Thailand but the Thai students are required to take many more classes each year. Tippy's enjoying her American stay with the Gordon Carlson family and becoming the typical a American teenager with her sisters Pam, JOy and Candy as her examples. 48 S. Emerson-Pres., T. A large increase in membership demonstrates that the Chess Club is succeeding in its en- deovor to promote interest in chess and pro- vide keen competition for its members. The Chess Club is a member of the Twin City High School League and plays other schools in the league regularly. Highlighting the club's year was the Minnesota State School Tournament. This year the Art Club, advised by Mrs. Stewart, has been organized informally with no officers. The purpose of the club is to provide an opportunity for those who are interested in art, but have no time to take it in school as a regular course. There were no dues. Working with school supplies, this club provided the school with scenery and decorations when needed. One of the highlights this year in the Art Club was their making of pottery and experimenting with exotic glazes. P. Hepola, K. ToHefson, N. Gisborne, J. Wedlund, J. Kopp, P. These activities allowed the members to compete with girls in other schools and experience competition. The annual GRA slumber party was a huge success as 135 girls crowded the gymnasium to participate in some of their favorite acti- vities.
