On December 6, 1966, about one-half million senior girls from 14,000 schools throughout Minnesota took a test as part of the Betty Crocker Homemaking of Tomorrow Program. Basic homemaking skills, knowledge, and attitudes were tested; the all-state winner was selected by General Mills. Contests were held on the state and national level; the prize, a scholarship in the field of Home Economics. Eden Prairie,s 1967 Homemaker of Tomorrow is Sharon Rens. Originated in 1953, the Robert L. Moran Award if given to a junior boy excelling in the areas of honesty, loyalty, clean living, Sportsmanship, and school Spirit. Chosen by previous winners, Jim Wessman is the 14th recipient of this award. Trans- ferring to Eden Prairie from Michigan in his sophomore year, Jim has lettered in football, basketball, and baseball, and he was president of Letterman's Clubs in his senior year. Student Council Introdmces Town Meetings Student Council, a program of leadership and school government, give students an op- portunity to voice opinions and constructive criticisms on school management. Communica- tion between student, council member, and ad- ministration has greatly improved through ttopen meetings. Under the leadership of Jim Westerhaus, President of Student Council, members have been active representing and governing the student body. National Honor Socie Tutors J unior High Students Linda Finholt assists a junior high student with her math. 44 Members of the National Honor Society are selected by the faculty on the basis of their scholastic achievement and an eval- uation of their leadership, service, and char- acter. At their monthly meetings members select a Student-of-the-Month who is featured in the school newspaper. Tutoring of junior high students has been adopted as an offi- cial project, members teaching remedial courses to those desiring help. During the spring a special assembly honors graduating NHS members and inducts new members into the club. At this time the senior members sign the official National Honor Society scroll. Art Club Brightens Halls Chess Team Perfects Strategy Eden Prairies chess team, the only Minnesota Valley Conference team participating in the Twin Cities Chess League, is perfecting its strategy for state title competition in the Spring. Under the supervision of Mr. Dale Gustafson, an Amatuer Twin Cities Chess Champion, practice matches are held between competing members. Chess is a game of strategy, with a deve10ped attack and defense toward one main objective--checkmate. Combining memory and reason, chess is a very challenging and fascinating recreation. S. Because they are judged on good summary, poise, delivery style, and research material, the members of the debate team spend many hours of research preparing and perfecting their arguments. For a moment everything was quiet and tense, and then a burst of excitement, as Linda Trouth and Jim Wessman were crowned 1966 Homecoming Queen and King. Accompanied by E.P. students, the King and Queen cheered the team to victory at a spirit - rousing bonfire. Greece the Spartans was our cheer as the Eagle gridders deadlocked the Spartans, who had not been held score- less for 12 years, in a 0-0 game. With fresh snow on the ground and more on its way, a flurry of events added excitement and fun to the 1967 Sno-Daze- HSno-Be-It. Beginning February 4, with a wrestling meet against Shakopee, Queen Kathy Kodet and King Sam Hanson, Sno-Daze royalty, began their reign. A Senior-Faculty basketball game, the seniors triumphant in a 16-14 victory, and a pepfest were climaxed by an exciting basketball game, the Eden Prairie Eagles smashing the Orono Spartans in a 58 to 50 victory. The game was followed by a talent show, with comedy skits and musical scores high- lighting the program. Saturday afternoon the seniors opposed the junior sophomore team in a rousing Sno-Bowl game. The Sno-Daze dance, with music provided by the GrasshOppers, was held at Prairie View Elementary SchooL Lots of action and many laughs resulted from the faculty-senior basketball game. Chorus in 1966 Musical The hilarious musical, Plenty of Money, was presented by the stu- dents of Eden Prairie High School on October 21 and 22. The action centered around Grandma Maude and her antiquated helpers who count- erfeit money for charity. Saginaw Cityts underworld criminals, loyal to the Leavenworth Penitentiary, try to get her to join their union, while loyal F.B.I. agents try to track the culprits. Arnold, Maudets grandson, was faced with two problems--a counterfeiting grandma and a lovesick sweetheart. Combined, these complications formed an un- believabfy funny and entertaining musical.
