. 1., , x, ,, Rx r - l xX DEDICATION The class of 1960 proudly dedicates this annual to Mr. Norman Nelson, our Principal. , Mr. Nelson came to Eden Prairie in 1953. He previously had taught at McGregor, Boyd, Clara City, Miltoy, Butterfield and Brewster. During these years he has had experience in all fields of education. In his first 10 years of teaching he was band director. Since then he has taught math, science, English, social studies, business and speech, to name a few. The major part of his education was obtained at Hamline University, where he received his Bachelor of 'Arts Degree. He has also attended St. Cloud State College, the University of North Dakota, and is presently working toward his Masters at the University of Minnesota. Mr. Nelson is married and has five children: Mary, now in the Hamline University School of Nursing; Margie, attending the University of Minnesota; Mark and Merrill, both in grammar school; and Marmie, who is six. His interests vary from fixing clocks to playing bridge. At one time he was quite proficient in tennis and skating, but lately he hasnit pursued these activities to any great degree. In the time Mr. Nelson has been here, he has made many contributions to our school. He was instrumental in starting our chapter of the National Honor Society, of which he is the advisor. Through his guidance, the Student Council has been strengthened into amore democratic organization. Through his efforts, the treasury of the Council has been increased to a point where it is available to help other financially distressed organiza- tions of the school. Aside from this he has provided leadership to the faculty, which has been difficult due to the crowded conditions. Mr. Nelson, we are proud to dedicate this annual to you. , y . Lerold QPtesidenO S. Benson Secretary. D. Pometleau .Vice PresidenO PROPHECY It is the year 1980. The Class of 60' is gathering together for its class reunion. As we enter the Hotel Eden Prai- rie we are welcomed by an old friend and classmate, who much to our surprise is the owner of the hotel. Good After- noon, Harvey Smetana greets us, the reunion will begin at 5:30. I'll call the bell hop to carry your bags up to your suite. The bell hop, who turned out to be none other than our former classmate, Dick Hitt, led us to the elevator where we met Chris Chtistenson, who proudly told us she was the owner and operator of a wild west show. As we arrive on the fifth floor, we notice that all the doors are ajat and we see many former classmates scurrying back and forth from room to room. As we step into Room 501, we ate gteated by Dennis Pometleau, who is now employed at Eden Prairie High School as a chemistry teacher. He is explaining the theory of heap big explosions to Di Dredge, who works in a munitions factory. From across the hall we hear the faint strains of Aloha 0e . As we hurry into the room, we are not surprised to see Jeanne Doughty diligently practising her hula dance. Jeanne tells us that she is just back from the Hawaiian Islands where she is a dance instructor. What is that commotion we hear in the next room? Why, it's a crowd of our former classmates gathered around Carolyn Emerson. What is Carolyn doing? Why, she's about to begin rehearsal for her new act opening tonite at the Cha Cha Club. Carolyn has found her life's ambition fulfilled working as a bubble dancer. And there's Ellen Johnson hastily scurrying about. Ellen has continued on to fame working as a photographer for the Withy Wathy Thoap Company. Also watching is Lorin Maenke! What has he been doing all these years? Oh my goodness, Lorin's been working as a zoo keeper at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. And there's Bob Wittenberg, laden down with his familiar wares. Bob has been a Fuller Brush man for about fifteen years now. No Bob!!!...I donlt want any brooms today! Let's move on down the hall. In Room number 506 we find Janis Dimlet. Janis is studiously going over some news- paper copies. She is a proof reader for a publishing company that manufactures spelling books. With her we find Marsha Nicholson and Winnie Boyd reminiscing over old times. Marsha is working as a waitress at the Piney Grill of Upper Chanhassen, and Winnie has been busily engaged as a ballet dancer. Back out in the hall again we find Jeannie Ramus engaged in conversation with Harold Schutrop, who has turned out to be a marriage counsellor. Harold is the person that introduced Barb Geiger to her poor hen-pecked husband. Bouncem' Barb has become a lady wrestler. We hear a loud commotion down the street. Beep, beep! Looking out the window we see a policeman directing traffic. Oh no, it's Jerry Bagley. He has just stopped a 39 Model T with a huge banner on it announcing Grand Winner of 1980 National Road Race. Mary Holasek, the driver, yells up and tells us that she is the vice-president of a hot roddets club. Who is that intelligent looking gentleman riding with her? It ain't Professor Berquist, is it? Larry is Professor of English at Purdue University. Glancing ovet toward the swimming pool, we notice that the life guard looks familiar. Why it's Splash Kennedy. In her spare time, Splash gives swimming instructions at the YMCA.....WOWEE...Who is that glamot girl on the diving board? It's 1 ong Sam Sue Benson. She tells us that she used to model for Short Miss Creations .... until they found out she was bending at the knees. Glancing about we notice many of our former classmates sunning themselves beside the pool. Whose face is hidden behind the obituary column of the Eden Prairie Buzzerd? lt's Frank Smetana, who tells us he is chief mortician in a funeral home. He has a very gratifying business. Furthermore, Bitz Monson is the receptionist in his mortuary. And there's Jeff Hoffsgom conversing with Reverend Bruce Eggan. Jeff tells us that he is a reformed beat- nik. Continuing our journey to the sixth floor, we come into the business section. On the door to the first office we read Big Game Hunter---Have Safari, Will Travel . Rosey Kopesky tells us she is a big game hunter. What does she hunt... MEN. As we progress down the corridor, who should we tun into but the world teknown Sherry Baker, the beautiful movie star. As we talk to Sherry, all she can say is Daaaaaahhhhling! On the next door we see Babysitting Agency -- Diane Listbetget is the president! Knocking on the door we ask, Diane, can you take one more? She replies, Why not. Further down the hall we notice a sign on a door which reads, Flower Shop . Stepping inside we are pleased to see our old friend, Eloise Gilbert. Eloise tells us she really enjoys her job as a florist. Now the next door is a must. It's Tom Roeset's store. Tom is now the vice-ptesident of the Eden Prairie Pickle Factory. Seeing the pickles reminds us of food, which makes us realize it's suppertime. Down we go on the elevator. As we enter the main floor dining room, we are greeted by the inviting aroma of pizza. While we are devouring the delicious pizza, we learn that it was made by Jim Letold. Jim tells us that he is now the head chef at the Cafe Pizza. After this lucious snack, we as: entertained by Gordy Stodola and Sue Fisher. Gordy is currently on Broadway playing the lead in Lil' Abner ; and Sue has finally landed a part in the Student Prince . She sings the tenor lead at Radio City Music Hall. After hashing over old memories it was too soon time to depart. We all went away in amazement thinking about the accomplishments of the Class of 60 . 5 , ,2 Q g $ 2 e $g , 1 Am M $ 4 JUNIORQ Row 1 0.. to RJ B. Pafko, M; Listberger, D. Wredberg, D. C. Dimler, J. Dredge-Sec.-Treas. The student council is the main governing body of our school. The purpose of this organization is to promote the general welfare of our school, its students and faculty; uphold the high standards of this school and work towards closer co-operation between faculty and students in curricular and extra activities. One of the most important contributions of this year's council, under the supervision of Mr. Nelson, was the co-ordination of the class meetings with the council meetings. A schedule of class and council meetings was set up. The class meeting was held one week in advance of the council meeting. At this class meeting the agenda for the next council meeting was presented before the student body. The students could voice their opinions on the items to be brought up, and the student council representatives would get a better idea of how the majority of their class felt. The council also promoted stricter enforcement of the dress code and the scheduling of a dance per-month throughout the year. Row 1. W. Boyd, R. Kopesky, A. Hoff. Row 2. J. Doughty, Mr. Nelson, D. They are Chosen in the spring and are inducted into the society in a special innaugutation ceremony. Afterwards a banquet is held for the P. Anderson-Vice President, w, Boyd- members and students who have been on the honor roll twice during President, J. Doughty-SECrTl'ea-SO the school year. A pin, which has a Torch as its insignia, is presented to each member. The Honor Society was privileged this year to attend Youth Appreciation Night at the Prom on the Midway. The juniors and seniors worked hard on their class play and had a lot of fun too. The setting for this play was an old, shabby railroad station. Because of a bad storm the train was derailed. The variety of people that accumulated in this station proved to be quite humorous. John Morgan, the station agent tDick Bird, and Silas Dobbins, his assistant tKurt Preblicki, have many headaches as everyone thinks they can solve all their problems. Miss Pidgie McDougal, a nosy old lady tWinnie BoydT, Evalina Bumpass tSue Fished, her fiance, Willy Woodson tPaul Andersoni, and Oscar Pozenby, an old man who,s hard of hearing tDennis NesbittT dadded a lotof laughter throughout the entire play. Three gay college girls - Flickie Nelson tMarsha Nicholsoro, Betty Phillips tSue Bensoni, and Joan Parker Uanice Dimled contributed a great deal. They are the center of romantic interest for a young lawyer, Bill Lindsay tDan Kormyloi. Mrs. Guarino, an Italian lady tEllen JohnsonT, is accused of stealing the rich Mrs. Vanderventefs pearls. Carolyn Emerson does a very good portrayal of Mrs. Vandetventer. Mrs. Guarinois three young daughters tLinda Thresher, Sue Tomlinson and Diane DredgeT add color to the stage. A lot of hard work was contributed by Barb Geiger tstudent directoo, Jeanne Doughty tgeneral managed and Bonnie Schmit tstudent assistant and prompted. Mrs. Stewart and her art department did a fine job on the scenery. Mrs. Rockwell, our advisor and director, spent many hours working on the play. She, along With the cast and stage hands, really made this play a big success. WhaHs that. D. Nesbitt, C. Emerson, K. Preblick. Si si. I got-a ten. E. Johnson, D. Dredge, S. Tomlinson, L. Thresher. Other standouts were Leon Nesbitt on offense and the defensive work of Tom Roeser, John Linner and Jeff Hoffstrom. Tom Roeser and Dennis Pomerleau, co-captains, are among the team's graduating seniors. Tom was acclaimed the most valuable player by his teammates. Other graduating seniors include Larry Berquist, Gordon Stodola, Jeff Hoffstrom, Dick Hitt and Jerome Bagley. These boys were an important part of the team and will be sorely missed next season. Although the boys suffered defeat many times, the coaches felt they showed consider- able improvement and are looking forward to a better season next year. Tom shows why he was selected the teamk most valuable player. JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL Row 1: D. Robertson, D. Rasmussen, M. Cobutn, R. Doughty, W. Kopesky, T. Chevalier, W. Todd, L. Engler, Mr. Hagen. They ended up with a 9-7 won-loss record and placed fourth in the Valley Conference. One of the high- lights of the season was winning our Homecoming game against Burnsville. Other bright spots were the scoring and rebounding of Dan Kormylo, the rebounding of Alan Hjorth, and the defensive work of Paul Anderson and Tom Roeser. The team suffered a set-back due to the absence of Doug Larson. After scoring 30 points against Orono and playing well in other games, Doug was sidelined for the rest of the season due to illness. Prospects for next season are bright. There were only three seniors on this Junior- dominated team. They were Captain Tom Roeser, Gordy Stodola and Dick Hirt. Their pre- sence will be missed, however, as they all did well in contributing to this years good re- cord. SEASONS STATISTICS GAMES F.G. l F.T. F. T.P. AVE.
