I have lived in Eden Prairie now for nigh onto thirty years. I have watched manypeople come and go, but I will never forget the seniors of 1958. ' I have knownthem when they were juSt little tots of five and six years of age and starting first grade in 1946. There were twenty- nine of them then and they were: Frank Anderson, Maxine Boyd, ,Gary Brandon, Barbara Bren, -JoAnn Bright, Janine Chelburg, Shirley Filipi, Carolyn Hathaway, George Heppes, George Holasek, Gloria Holasek, Janet Holasek, Paul Kittleson, Robert Kopesky, Robert Langer, Patricia Launert, James Leary, Kenneth Lohr, LeRoy' Novotny, David Olson, Jackie Pavelka, Elaine Schnaky, JoAnne Schutropg Samuel Schutrop, Nancy Shaver, Norma Wanek, Bonita Westphal, Robert Williams, and Jackie Wood. In 1947, Robert Langer, LeRoy Novotny, JoAnne and. Samuel Schutrop, Nancy Shaver, Bonita Westphal, George Heppes, Ken Lohr, and Jackie Wood left us, but Richard Becker, Marlene Gillette, John Mohlin and DeWitte Reed joined us. In 1948, just one year after they entered, Richard Becker, DeWitte Reed, and Marlene Gillette left 'us. We also lost Gary Brandon, Carolyn Hathaway, Patricia Launert, David Olson, and Robert Williams. We gained James Brady, Charles Monson, Ruby Torgerson, and Verlyn Torgerson. We also gained Ronald Fuller, but did not get to know him too well, for he left the same year. In 1949, we gained James Balfanz, Philip Bartels, David Delahunt, Delmond Haakinson, Bonnie Pederson, Allan Penney, and David Furuli. We lost James Brady, Ruby Torgerson, and Verlyn Torgerson. In 1950, and in the fifth grade, I see that a few more have joined us. But, alas and alack, a few left us too. Those that joined us were: Jerry Geiger, James Robinson, and Kathy Bohlen. Philip Bartels and David Furuli lift us. In 1951, meeting the half-way mark, we find that Bruce Brekke, Karen Brown, Sharon Ledell, Nancy Wollin, Daniel Hollenbeck, and Roger Zempel have joined our class, but we lost James Robinson, Delmond Haakinson, and David Delahunt. In 1952, I noticed that quite a few more students were enrolled in the seventh grade at good old Eden Prairie . They were Richard Boywer', Don Enger, Vern Foss, Duane Jacques, Kathy. Lubrant, Karon Lubrant, Nancy Mitchell, Dan Shidla, Vern Wittenberg, and Nancy Shaver. But we lost Jerry Geiger, Daniel Hollenbeck and Roger Zempel. I In 153, and still going strong, we gained only faur new members. They were Doris Florez, Ron Coburn, Bill Good, and James Lueck. We lost only one this year and that Was Nancy Shaver. In 154, we gained Harold Duda, Florence 'Schutrop, Roger Bell, and Ken Varpness. But as in other years, we must part with our friends, and those that parted were Paul Kittleson, Don Enger, Richard BOWyer, and Jim Leary. 10 BARBARA BREN Cheerleading 9, 10, ll, lZ...Library 9, 10...PepC1ub 9, 10, ll, lZ...Art Club 9...Class Play 11, 12...Office Help ll...Homecoming Attendant 12 ...Student Council lZ...Co-editor of Annual 12...Buzzer 9, 10, 11........ Wittenberg said Goodbye to us and left for other parts. In our junior year, we were presented with Brute Zemlin and Dave Platt, but both left us at the end of the year along with Allan Penney, Karon Lubrant and James Fisher. Now those left in this senior class and ready to graduate are Florence Schutrop, Jackie Pavelka, Mary Nelson, Don MacKinnon, Jim Lueck, Kathy Lubrant, Robert Kopesky, Duane Jacques, Janet Holasek, George Holasek, Gloria Holasek, William Good, Bruce Brekke, Vernon Foss, Doris Florez, Shirley Filipi, Harold Duda, Karen Brown, Barb Bren, Micky Boyd, Jim Balfanz, Marvin Susemihl, Charlotte Wenisch, Dan Shidla, Ken Varpness, and Charles Monson. Of those that started, only eight stayed with us for the full twelve years. They were, Micky Boyd, Barb Bren, Shirley Filipi, George Holasek, Gloria Holasek, Janet Holasek, Bob Kopesky, and Jackie Pavelka. Some of these seniors are a little reluctant to leave Eden Prairie , but others are looking forward to new lives and different wonders that lie ahead for them. Maybe I'm sentimental, but I know that Eden Prairie and I will never forget the seniors of 1958. 12 SHIRLEY FILIPI Chorus 9, 10, ll, 12...Art Club 9 ...Pep Club 10. 12...Library 9, 10, ll, 12...Student Study Hall 9, 10, 11, lZ...Kitchen Help 10. Student Study Hall 9. Class Prophecy Tonight we are planning on boarding our airboat and visit Eden Prairie's graduation class of 1958. We stopped at the school office and through Mr. Harry Huls' co-operation learned the whereabouts of these people and their occupations. We were told that living in Minneapolis we might find Micky Boyd handing out bubble gum to five little Susies . The bubble gum was free as Marvin Susemihl works for Double Bubble as an advertising agent. From Susemihl's we can buzz our airboat to Gloria Holasek's house. Being she liked Mrs. Holzer's home econornics class, we were not sur- prised to learn that she is a housewife helping her children make their favorite food, mudpies. Duane Jacques is still on the farm, known around the world for his purebred no-bite-misquitoes . We can now leave Minneapolis via the airboat and head for Chicago. Upon entering Chicago, we can expect to see a sign reading Balfanz's Talking Horses . Jim traveled around the world in his Navy ship, finally choosing Chicago to get rich. They say his horses eat phono- graph records supplied by Mary Nelson. She leaves the rock out of her music and just lickety splits along . From Chicago we were told to go west. Along the way we might watch for a peddler, Bruce Brekke, who is peddling tooth picks. Don MacKinnon could be seen in Dallas, Texas roller skating to work. He invented a fast moving no-fall skate that replaced his car. Also in Texas we are to find a town called Duda City. Harold put his talent to work raising cabbages and turned out to be a sauerkraut king. And now for Hollywood! Barb Bren is running in competition with Florence Schutrop in Name the True Blonde Contest . Barb's pub- licity agent, Bob Kopesky, insisted Barb obtain publicity by being a Republican. Barb, unhappy with the whole idea, forced Bob into exile to Burma, where is now milking cows. In Los Angeles we are to find The James Lueck Institute. Jim is the founder, president, and administrator of this place which spec- ializes in hot rod Model A's. He has one Model A which just broke a world record for speed. It went faster than sound. Across the Pacific to Moscow, Russia, we find Dan Shidla. He is an American spy, spying on all marriage counselors in Moscow. In Germany, Kathy Lubrant is said to be closely allied with the army. She is supposed to be working with a witty fellow. The two of them are planning an expedition to'the North Pole. Paris has offered Doris Florez a wonderful opportunity. She tricked a designer into beliving she was a true French girl, and she is now modeling for the designer. Shirley Filipi has a restaurant in Spain. Her speciality is American fried chicken, the cheapest dinner selling for $ 10.09. 17 DONALD MacKINNON Class Officer 11, 12...Class Play 9, 10, ll, 12...Homecoming Attend- ant 10...Basketball 9, 10. She has obtained the rank of C'aptain due to the terrific job of inspecting gar- bage cans'. New York City was the place for the Wensek Company. Charlotte is a model for Wensek Nose Tissues, and George tries to demonstrate Wensek Nose Tissues to the natives of Africa. Politics attracted Chuck Monson to Washington D. C. He is the pres- ident of the Sputnik Party. Also in Washington is Janet Holasek. She is the first woman to become the president of the United States. She was a dark horse candidate. on the Democratic ticket. Karen Brown settled in New Orleans. Every year during the Mardi Grad season, she gets $ 100 for'doing the Tango. We are to come back to Minneapolis and stop at Central Park to see Ken Varpness and Bill Good. Ken preaches the gospel every Sunday, and Bill is busy picking daisys. It looks like our airboat will have to travel around the world. , Our journey is planned, lets not miss anyone who graduated in 1958. 19 FLORENCE SCHUTROP Chorus 9. 10, ll, lZ...Class Officer 12...Student Council 10...Homecom- ing Attendant lZ...Office Help 12... The slogan for the game in which our Eagles met the Shakopee Indians was Edge-u-kate the Injuns which unfortunately we didn't do. The ' score was 76-59. The B team did quite well, However, by beating Shakopee's B team in an overtime score of 33-29. A talent show followed the game, with Janet Holasek as a very fine mistress of ceremonies. First on the program were Barbara Raustadt and Sue Tomlinson who tap danced to Rollin' the Boogie. Next. came Janet Hone, who sang the Irish Ballad, Danny Boy. Then, Pat and Jerry Nesbitt played a piano duet, Polonaise Militaire. Janice Susemihl sang the popular song Too Young To Go Steadyl. Susan Yarborough, a first grader, tap danced to the' Syncopated Clock. Bruce Brekke and Harvey Smetana played a guitar duet entitled Chatanooga Shoe-Shine Boy. A girl's quartet, composed of Diane Dredge, Rosemary Kopesky, Charlotte Wenisch and Sharon Thompson sang Eddie My Love. The coronation came right after the talent show. The 1957 Homecoming King and Queen, Jane Gens Dunn of 1956 crowned 1958's King and Queen, Harold Duda and Barbara Bren. Kathy Balfanz and David McC artney were crown bearers, and the attend- ents as follows: grade 7; Linda Brekke and Tony Chevalier, Grade 8; Sunny Hayes and Mike Torgerson; Grade 9; Linda Thresher and Leon Nesbitt; Grade 10; Winnie Boyd and Gordon Stodola; Grade 11; Mary Anderson and Bob Pauly and Grade 12: Florence Schutrop and Jim Balfanz.
