Perhaps that’s why we oft resent the wisdom That older persons have at their command. The false security we felt as children Has left us now, and here alone we stand Against the world, at Graduation’s Gateway, An utterly bewildered little band. At seventeen we know that Youth is eager To read the pages of the Book of Life, To hurry over parts that seem to bore us To those that picture action, color, strife.
