Problems National and Global 'abt GREATER courage and more experience lead the second year junior high school class into adventures before untried. The eighth grade achieved real success athletically in this sea' son's field meet and in their rugged basket' ball team fstarring the Petroff twins, Dwight Webster, Leroy Rockwood, Robert Rendell and Earl Millerl. Scholastically, science was a practical study of the environf ments-rocks, purification of water and air pressure. English units consisted of book character contests, actual dramatic perform' ances, the analysis of poetry, and the devel' opment of paragraphs. Within their homerooms, the bulletin boards, always attractive, once displayed many kinds of ships, reminders of school friends, now in the Navy. Several eighth graders joined the 4fH Club: Joe and James Petroff, Oliver Sullif van, Leroy Rockwood, Don Zittel, and Earl Miller. bruise behen As the seventh graders entered the junior high school, they were proud of their new knighthood. No longer humble pages, they now began new ventures. New freedoms, however, brought new responsibilities. In planning their social activities they added to their shields records of successful leadership. English class adventures in- cluded new conquests in learning. Biograf phies were reviewed as a radio program- Who Am I? In poetry work, attractively edited anthologies were published. The year's greatest achievement was the study of the literature of aviation. The seventh grade room became an airport. Murals and models represented every kind of plane, even planes in air battle over an aircraft carrier. In social studies, local and state govern' ment were the core of other projects and study.
