Presldent s Address Of Welcome We of the Semor Class of 1940 wlsh to welcome heartlly our parents teachers and frlends to this Class Day exercise We lnvlte you to llsten to our lnformal remmlscences and optlmlstlc ambltlons Soon our thoughts wlll be those of a more serlous nature preparatory to takmg our final and most lmportant regents' exams After that wnll follow the serrous busmess of our graduation exerclses We wrll be advlsed bv our superlors as to how to lead a responslble and useful llfe They wlll try to pass on to us what they themselves have gleaned from years of practlcal experlence Too soon we wlll be leavmg for good the school where we made many happy assoclatlons But untll that tlme we shall not hve ln the future Let us present to you an entertalmng account of accomphshments events and personalmes that wlll be memo rably hnked to our lllgh school days I wlsh to echo the sentlments of our entlre class ln welcommg you here tomght to share IH our good humor and we earnestly hope that you wlll meet agam wlth us as we assemble to graduate Class H1story Hlstorlcally speakmg we cannot claim to be as dlsruptlng ln world events as Mr Hitler but to our selves we modestly boast that m our small way we have done more than he ln makmg the world a better place ID whxch to l1ve True lt IB not unusual that we passed ln logrcal procedure from one grade to another but to us the gum chewing eplsodes basketball nvalry note wntmg sesslons our trnp to the museum and eighth grade promotlon are things which wlll hve ln our memorles forever Durmg our years ln hlgh school we have had our moments of trlumph and our moments of doubtfully glorlous mlschlef Through lt all we have steadlly grown for several new students have jomed our class untll we now have reached twenty five ln number For the past three years we have been located ln the same tlny cublcle at the top of the back stalrs on the left Although we grumbled and groaned about nts compactness we would have dlshked to leave It had we the opportumty Wlth 1t are assoclated many comradeshlps Here too we enjoyed the advlsorshlp of Mlss Grau Mlss Balsch Mlss Keefe and Mr Traylor The regularxty wlth whlch Carolyn June Davldson attended school stands out in our memories We thmk lt noteworthy to mention that she has not mlssed a slngle day of school slnce she started twelve years a 0 Thls year whlch has been our busiest has been full of fun and excitement Following the field meet came our Hallowe en dance wlth lts sensatlonal hall of horrors In January we sponsored a pubhc dlnner whlch was the first of its kmd and a huge success Our last 8CtlVlty was the Semor Ball and we now look forward to our graduation wlth happiness for the experxences ahead of us and wnth sorrow for those we are leavmg behind ' 9 9 9 9 ' . . 9 V 0 0 . . . . . 9 9 ' . , . s . . . . . .. . 9 ' 9 ' . .N . . . .,, . .. . . 9 9 9 9 9 ' 9 1 9 . . . ... . .
