The drama's laws, the drama's patrons give. Long remembered will be this year's Play Contest, a presentation of the Dramatic Club. This contest is sponsored once a year by the Club and is a main event of the season. Besides being friendly rivalry for the classes, it spurs on the opposing casts to their best efforts. The Iunior class achieved their goal this year by being recognized as having the best play of the Contest. They produced the one-act comedy, Thank You, Doctor, by George Kelly. Honorable mention was given to the Seniors for their presentation of the satire, The Flattering Word, by Gilbert Emery. The Sophomores presented The Kid Makes Up His Mind, by Iohn Kirkpatrick. The awards for best actress went to Blanche Hilyard, Senior, Billie Restucci and Ange- lina Venuti, were chosen for honorable mention. On the male side, the awards went to Eugene Regenbogen, first place, and Elbert Smith, honorable mention. Assigning permanent coaches for the plays was one of the innovations of the Dramatic Club this year. Coaching the plays this year and continuing onward were Miss Kirkpatrick, Miss Young and Miss Dolbow, who has supervised the Dramatic Club for the past eleven years. Each year, during the month of May, officers are elected for the following year. This year's officers include: Mary Gonzalves, president: Blanche Hilyard, vice-president: Nettie Rubino, secretary and Billie Restucci, treasurer. 37

A'Honour is purchased by the deeds we do: honour is not won. The ultimate reward for Iuniors and Seniors possessing qualities of Leadership, Scholar- ship, Character and Service is the National Honor Society. Membership in this Society is a rare privilege and must be deserved. Its main activities are preparing the honor roll each six weeks and selling personalized post cards, stationery and name tags. Conducted by the old members, the installation of new members took place in March, rewarding eight new Seniors and six Iuniors. The leaders of the Society are: Betty Moitz, president: Evelyn McKane, vice-president: lane Bowhall, secretary-treasurer, and Miss Dolbow, adviser. A special feature of the Honor Society program this year was the forming of the Iunior National Honor Society. For the first time in the history of the school the members of the Sophomore class have been noticed for their traits of Leadership, Scholarship, Service, Citi- zenship, and Character. Membership in the Society does not mean that they will be a part of the National Honor Society, but it does recognize their work. Four boys and three girls were elected as a nucleus for this new organization of honor. NATIONAL HUNOB Somew W N

I K Kahil Gibran, in beautiful language, has stated the goal of the band-the culture aspects which come from an acquaintance with good music rather than the superficiality of football field technique. When football season closed, the band put away its marches and began the serious study of the better types of music. To cultimate the sincere efforts. a program was given before the Assembly. in which music by Saint Saens, Gounod. and Gluck was per- formed. Adding much to the appearance of the band at football games were the majorettes and color guards. They performed equally well at all games, and lNlr. Doran was well pleased with their sincerity and faithfulness. Seniors among the band, majorettes. and color guard will be difficult to replace, since twelve will graduate this Iune. of Iflvfl' yfflx tllsn. mul fum! fur qvnllr Milli..- -lrul if llivrv FIPIIII' Iliw .VflI'LIl'I'S Il Illf' finrzrvrs nuff ilu' flulv pluvvwrs lun I nr llzwv lun. ure' ,Zllfll1'I'I'l'S u franl.'il1rwl1.w. nuff Ilml icliirli Illl'-Y lxrin Illllllyll 'frisliinrrvrl nf rlrvunis. ix ruimv
