Among their many accomplishments was taking first place in the Annual Play Contest. Ioining with the Seniors they served on committees for the Iunior-Senior Prom. ln addition to these two big moments, they were participants in other school affairs, such as dances and athletics. The Iunior Class was led by its advisers, Miss Kirkpatrick, Mr. Kimes. The assistants were Cornelius Dacey. vice-president: Lorraine Comfort, secretary, and Dennis Green, treasurer. The Sophs made a splendid showing in the annual play contest. The ultimate reward for Iuniors and Seniors possessing qualities of Leadership, Scholar- ship, Character and Service is the National Honor Society. Membership in this Society is a rare privilege and must be deserved. Its main activities are preparing the honor roll each six weeks and selling personalized post cards, stationery and name tags. Conducted by the old members, the installation of new members took place in March, rewarding eight new Seniors and six Iuniors. The leaders of the Society are: Betty Moitz, president: Evelyn McKane, vice-president: lane Bowhall, secretary-treasurer, and Miss Dolbow, adviser. A special feature of the Honor Society program this year was the forming of the Iunior National Honor Society. For the first time in the history of the school the members of the Sophomore class have been noticed for their traits of Leadership, Scholarship, Service, Citi- zenship, and Character. Membership in the Society does not mean that they will be a part of the National Honor Society, but it does recognize their work. Four boys and three girls were elected as a nucleus for this new organization of honor. NATIONAL HUNOB Somew W N The drama's laws, the drama's patrons give. Long remembered will be this year's Play Contest, a presentation of the Dramatic Club. This contest is sponsored once a year by the Club and is a main event of the season. Besides being friendly rivalry for the classes, it spurs on the opposing casts to their best efforts. The Iunior class achieved their goal this year by being recognized as having the best play of the Contest. They produced the one-act comedy, Thank You, Doctor, by George Kelly. Honorable mention was given to the Seniors for their presentation of the satire, The Flattering Word, by Gilbert Emery. The Sophomores presented The Kid Makes Up His Mind, by Iohn Kirkpatrick. The awards for best actress went to Blanche Hilyard, Senior, Billie Restucci and Ange- lina Venuti, were chosen for honorable mention. On the male side, the awards went to Eugene Regenbogen, first place, and Elbert Smith, honorable mention. Assigning permanent coaches for the plays was one of the innovations of the Dramatic Club this year. Coaching the plays this year and continuing onward were Miss Kirkpatrick, Miss Young and Miss Dolbow, who has supervised the Dramatic Club for the past eleven years. Each year, during the month of May, officers are elected for the following year. This year's officers include: Mary Gonzalves, president: Blanche Hilyard, vice-president: Nettie Rubino, secretary and Billie Restucci, treasurer. 37 I K Kahil Gibran, in beautiful language, has stated the goal of the band-the culture aspects which come from an acquaintance with good music rather than the superficiality of football field technique. When football season closed, the band put away its marches and began the serious study of the better types of music. To cultimate the sincere efforts. a program was given before the Assembly. in which music by Saint Saens, Gounod. and Gluck was per- formed. Adding much to the appearance of the band at football games were the majorettes and color guards. They performed equally well at all games, and lNlr. Doran was well pleased with their sincerity and faithfulness. Seniors among the band, majorettes. and color guard will be difficult to replace, since twelve will graduate this Iune. of Iflvfl' yfflx tllsn. mul fum! fur qvnllr Milli..- -lrul if llivrv FIPIIII' Iliw .VflI'LIl'I'S Il Illf' finrzrvrs nuff ilu' flulv pluvvwrs lun I nr llzwv lun. ure' ,Zllfll1'I'I'l'S u franl.'il1rwl1.w. nuff Ilml icliirli Illl'-Y lxrin Illllllyll 'frisliinrrvrl nf rlrvunis. ix ruimv 'Um ' rs l'MLlSiC Hath Charms 'I I A 56 A A ln everybody's life music has a certain place. This especially is true with the fifty mem- bers who devote their time conscientiously to develop excellent programs which are enjoyed by all. The Christmas Candle Light Service was an excellent example of this hard-working attitude. This program. under the excellent direction of Miss Burn. proved a success and brought an inspiring atmosphere over all of the attentive audience. The Clubs are practicing for their final performance in May. The Spring Concert, a merge of the boys' and girls' Glee Clubs. will be the climax of hours of hard work and studying. As beautiful and exciting as the program will be, it will be sad for almost half of the club who will be leaving through graduation. It has been many years since there was a Boys' Glee Club as there is now. Led by Mr. Doran the boys have responded eagerly. After much planning the monitor system finally got under way this year. The monitors have taken on many more responsibilities and duties in accordance with the new program. The new addition to the monitor system is that ol the hall monitors, who go to assigned posts during the passing of classes. The students have taken an active interest in this organization and thus the school spirit has improved. Through the careful guidance and leadership of Miss Kirkpatrick, the group was greatly inspired. Through the coordinated effort of each individual. the position of Student Participation as a part of the school organization was greatly strengthened. W UUHITHI -io Face life squarely. Coach Marion had four lettermen to form the nucleus for the '45 squad. The season opened with three losses. A more experienced Collingdale squad ran rough- shod over the green Stoners. Downington, despite their inept ball-handling, managed to pull themselves together long enough to eke out a I2-O win. Dropping a heartbreaker to Glen-Nor 2-0 would have been enough to break the morale of any team. Again, the team that wouldn't give up, pulled one out of the fire. They nosed out and upset a heavily favored Ridley Park team. Winding up the season with the annual Turkey Day game, Eddystone went out to meet the Raiders on their field. She came out of the fray loser on the tail end of a 25-O score, Most people think that hockey is just a robust game, but to those girls who play the game, and play it right, know it as a sport that requires skill and practice. When the girls play they create coordination which is not only useful in hockey, but in everyday life. The varsity squad had one of the best hockey teams that Eddystone has had in many years, winning six, tying one, and losing two. The girls started off on the wrong foot by losing to Glen-Nor 2-1.
