THE 1977 EAGLE ECTOR RURAL SCHOOL ECTOR, TEXAS ATHLETICS 5 ADMINISTRATION 17 FACULTY 21 ACTIVITIES 25 FAVORITES 33 CLASSES 39 ADVERTISERS 49 3 Ector is rural America. Where else but in rural America does each student have the opportunity to know every student in the school on a personal basis, thus allowing each to share in a very real sense the growth of the other? In this familiar setting our personal lives become stronger, and our family, our school, our com- munity, and ultimately our nation benefit. 4 ECTOR HIGH EAGLES FIRST ROW: Pam Harrell, Brenda Jones, Karen Large. SECOND ROW: Judy Hill, Cheryl Denton, Vicky Abbott. THIRD ROW: Randy Dollins, coach, Terri Bellows, Karen Payne, Kim Large. 7 Judy shows how to dribble with her foot, but it is the forwards' defensive ability that leaves the Savoy fans spellbound. Karen and Kim illustrate real finesse when going after the ball. Cheryl navigates the Savoy defense while Terri antici- pates Brenda’s pass. 8 ECTOR HIGH EAGLES FIRST ROW: Mark Burkhaiter, Bradley Lambert, Richard Sells, Jeff Hopkins, Eugene Garcia. SECOND ROW: Tommy Bellows, Mike Cox, Marshall Underwood, Kyle Denton, Randy Dollins, coach; Leroy Brantley, Joe Garcia, Bill White, Chris Hopkins. 9 Although the boys got off to a slow start, they came through and won the honor of play- ing in the District 34-B Tournament. Once there, they played an admirable game against Savoy, but unfortunately they lost 54-46. 10 Richard, Bradley, and Jeff look on as Mark has a falling out. Eugene occupies Savoy while Brad- ley and Kyle come to the rescue. The guards look amazed as Richard jumps sky-high. The coach explains where the ball is supposed to go. Bradley gives it a sporting try, but Mark is looking for belter odds. 11 HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS TOP L TO R Karen Large Paula Janeway BOTTOM L TO R Terri Bellows Judy Hill 12 ECTOR JUNIOR HIGH EAGLES FIRST ROW: Laquita Turner, Rhonda Parker, Gena Simer. SECOND ROW: Juliann Bellows, Rhonda Barnett, Julie Denton. THIRD ROW: Stella Garcia, Sonya Johnson, Sharon Roberts, Randy Dollins, coach. FIRST ROW: Robert Spindle, Johnny Whitehead, Danny Bush, Steve Barnett, Jeff White. SECOND ROW: Billy Don Roberts. James Cobb, Kenneth Long, Joe Rhudy, Kenneth Abbott. THIRD ROW: Wally Spindle, Danny Glaser, Roy Garcia, Randy Godwin, Randy Dollins, coach. 13 The junior high girls had a disappoint- ing season. They were a young team with only limited playing experience, but they played with a lot of spirit. They are looking forward to a better season next year. M On the other hand, the junior high boys had a more encouraging year. They won consolation trophies in the Windom and Ector tournaments. The boys, who did a commendable job both on defense and offense, are anticipating next year to be even more exciting. 5 JR. HIGH CHEERLEADERS 16 Joe Bellows; E. E. Hill, Jr.; Grady Bush; Charles Bellows; Charles Large; Jimmy Johnson; David Thomas (not present) BOARD OF EDUCATION W. D. Nelson has a bachelor and a master’s degree from East Texas State University. He has professional high school and elementary teaching certif- icates and is certified as a superin- tendent and principal. He has taught in Maple Springs, Forrestburg, Savoy, Argo, Cookville, and was County Superintendent at Mount Pleasant before coming to Ector. He has been superintendent in Ector since 1967. SUPERINTENDENT 19 Nema Morris, a former graduate of Ector herself, is now teaching the fifth and sixth grades at Ector in addition to her duties as principal. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree from East Texas State University. She has previously taught at Gober. Students and teachers scatter after they enter the gate and spend the day doing what they like most. Some try their luck at the games on the Midway, but others find more pleasure in the rides. However, ’’Big Tex” is a favorite attraction of 26 everyone. The Halloween Carnival is an annual event. The classes sponsor booths which range from spook houses to games where members of the community compete to win prizes. The focal point of the eve- ning is the coronation of the kings and queens of Ector's elementary and high schools. The P.T.O. uses the proceeds from the carnival to improve the school’s facilities and buy basketball uniforms. 27 28 The day before the Christmas holidays, every class has a party. After lunch, we meet in the auditorium to sing Christmas car- ols and open gifts. It is a tradi- tion for all new teachers to dedi- cate a carol to the student body. 29 P.T.O. We editors of the Eagle wish to extend our gratitude to our sponsor, Camille Morgan, who has worked many long hours with us to make this annual a reality. Also thanks to the other seniors for their contributions to the annual and other class projects during the past four years. In this yearbook we have tried to capture glimpses of our school as we would like to remember it and share these glimpses with our fellow students. We will always treasure this book as a reminder of this year, as we hope you will. Best of luck to the staff of next year's Eagle. It is our sincere wish that you will enjoy putting your yearbook together as much as we have. 31 school sounds . . . the roar- ing, the giggling, the com- plete silence. 32 -■ • FAVORITES MR.
