1978 Beaver Tales Presents Reflections Table of Contents Reflections As the wind dies down And the pool calms We see ourselves Images in the water Real, but unreal Clear, but unclear As the ripples distort the reflection Our thoughts return to reality And the decisions in our lives. The questions in real life Are like distortions of the image As the reflection clears, questions are answered. But life, like the pool. Is a never ending change Of reflected images of ourselves. Faculty and Administration Board of Education Left to right: Mr. Dustin, Mr. Simaz, Mr. Nichols, Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Ferry, Mr. Jackson, and Mr. Renbarger. Left: Dr. William Horie, Superintendent. Right: Mr. John Laskarides, Principal. Administration When was it you first realized you were a real teacher? Miss Hudson, Top: At 2:00 A.M. Nov. 21. 1953. Mrs. Snyder. Bottom: Mr. Sager: 1 don’t feel that 1 have ever fulfilled my idea of being a real teacher. However, 1 appar- ently did for some other people when 1 received my first pay- check! What are you looking for from a student? Mr. Ferry, Top: I am looking for a person who actively cooperates and participates in the class activities and learning experi- ences. Mr. Bomke, Bottom. 12 Do you think students are changing? Mr. Kime, Top: Yes, students are changing and changing in a variety of ways. They are much more aware; more into self-understanding and self- awareness; more demanding; more confident in themselves; more alone; more willing to try new experiences; more involved; less willing to endure the hardships of self-discipline and then more surprised to find doors and opportunities closed to them. Finally, they care more — and that’s what keeps me coming back. Mr. Halgren, Bottom. Mr. Gray, Top: The change I see that is encouraging lies in the emotional maturity and respect that the early level high school student displays. The Age of Permissiveness weaned its gen- eration and they are disappearing from the high school classroom. A new type is arriving which I feel says good things about the future of the education proc- ess and of America. Mr. Pica, Bottom: Yes I think students are changing. They are demanding more in what goes on in the world but do not wish to accept the responsibility that goes with it. Mrs. Hahn, Top: Yes, but only because society has as well as what parents are expecting from them. Schools are also changing and the entire process is not unnatural, although we seem to be liv- ing in a rapidly changing era which makes life better for everyone. Many times goals are not developed and the uncertainty which affects society is par- tially responsible for this. Ms. Wallen. Bottom: No. students are still deciding what their life goals will be and how to attract the opposite sex — the same as in the olden days. 13 Mr. Jessup, Top: Nothing to it — But do it. Mr. Flagel, Bottom: I have received much advice in my life. The best, however, would be: 1. ) Whatever the personal cost or sacrifice, finish college and earn a degree; 2. ) To fill the emptiness in my life and to realize “Peace With God” (Romans 5:1), accept “The Gift Of God Which Is Eternal Life Through Jesus Christ Our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) What is the best advice Mr. Conto. Top: Punt on third down, it confuses the opponent. Mrs. Jewel. Bottom: I am responsi- ble for my own life. 1 am the cause of what happens to me, of how I feel and how I look. I have power over myself. I choose. If I am unhappy, it is because I choose to be. My destiny is what I choose it to be. you ever had? Mr. Holm: A star of my magni- tude can never be completely dimmed. Mrs. Marks, Not Pictured. 14 What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment as a teacher? Miss Annis. Mr. Shoop, Top: Defeating the stu- dents at volleyball for three straight games. Mrs. Goldner, Bottom. Mrs. Greenhaw, Top: Teaching the students more about themselves. Mr. Down. Bottom. 15 What is the best part of your job? Mr. Brauer: The best part of my job is sometimes years after I have a student. When the stu- dents come back to visit and remember me or my class, it makes the job very worthwhile. Mr. Richardson, Top: The satisfac- tion a student receives when a job is done right is perhaps the most satisfying aspect of teach- ing. Mrs. Grieser. Bottom: Sharing con- ference hour with “Sawatzki!” Mr. Petersen. Not Pictured are stu- dent teachers: Mr. Blake. Miss Bur- goyne, Mr. Hill, and Miss Riems. f 16 Mrs. Bowerman, Top. Mrs. Popke, Bottom. 17 The applause has ended, the curtain has fallen, our role is over, another year of our lives is recorded. We have acted our last scenes at F.au Claire. We can see so clearly those first days as freshmen when we entered with enthusiasm, and yet still leaving as freshmen in a new world, with new experiences and new goals. We are about to emerge into a world that encom- passes a wider scope than what we saw at Eau Claire. When we find time to look back we will see how very small our world at Eau Claire really was. but then it was important to us. So now. as we step through the doors, and each of us go our separate ways, we shall remember. . . Although the juniors were victorious that night, each class constructed an imaginative float, por- traying the theme “Beavers Go to the Movies.” JUNIOR CLASS FLOAT 60 When the night finally arrived, although it poured down rain and we lost the game, we still had a feeling of success and pride in our school because the Homecoming activities during the week were such great fun. It left us with a feeling of victory! To conclude the Homecoming activities the dance, fea- turing Misty Blue, was a smash. 61 National Honor Society This year was the first year the National Honor Society gave academic letters to students who achieved a 3.25 average for 3 consecutive semesters. The purpose of the Huddle: To confront athletes and coaches, and through them the youth of the nation, with the challenge and adventure of fol- lowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in the fellowship of the Church and serving Him through our vocations. Our local Huddle met monthly before and after school. At these meetings we would have recreation, prayer, and Bible study. Our main thrust this year was to raise money for a Spring vacation trip to North Carolina. We accomplished this goal by selling refreshments at the Girls’ Basketball games, selling jackets, holding raffles, and selling candy. Our efforts were well worth it as we enjoyed white-water canoeing, hiking, rock-climbing, swimming, repelling, and sightseeing! TfticAlfOM 491 To the Class of 1978 - To achieve any goal in life one must first decide what one wants to achieve. Climbing to the top is a matter of willingness to pay the price. Most of us are Willing to give about eight hours a day to our ;,obs. Up to this point everyone else is in the race; but those who forge ahead, put in over- time . The return for a standard day's work is moderate because competition is so keen, but overtime pay is always high - it goes up in geometrical ratio. Many thousands have the ability to achieve outstanding success in every undertaking of life - industry, poli- tics literature, music, - if they are willing to give themselves and overtime to one achievement. Remember, getting is the result of giving. When one directs all his energy into one channel, and gives himself wholly to one task, one can achieve nearly any goal that he may want in life. Our best to all of you, and may success and happiness be yours in the years ahead.
