EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS THE 1969 BEAVER TALES SAM CONTO DEDICAT ION The Beaver Tales Staff of 1969 proudly dedicates its annual to Mr. Sam Conto. Although Mr. Conto has enough jobs to handle, being Athletic Director, Head Librarian, baseball coach, yearbook advisor, and discipli- narian of the high school, he always found the time to talk to us right when we needed him. He helped us through many problems and times of dis- couragement with his sincere interest, and of course his good ole' belly laugh. Again, with our hearty thanks and warmest wishes, we dedicate this book to you, Mr. Conto..... ADMINISTRATION S UP EIUNTE NDENT'S A ESSAGE Education is preparation for citizenship in its broadest sense. The development of the individual to the limit of his capacity for complete living in our society is the major purpose of education. The home, the school, the church, the community and many other agencies share in the responsibility for our education. In educating for well-rounded citizenship, the schools are not alone in their efforts. Education is a cooperative enterprise. Don K. Silcox Superintendent PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Congratulations to the annual staff for successful venture into yearbook pub- lication. The value of this book will become more evident as each of you grows older. The opportunity to take part in a production of this type is a learning experi- ence in which students accept responsibility, are trained for leadership, have the privilege of making mistakes, and participate with their fellow classmates. This is very important to gain a total education. I hope all of you have achieved: 1. a love of learning for learning's sake. 2. a maximum development of your intellectual powers. 3. the ability to think critically. 4. the capacity to make logical, valid judgements. 5. the ability to communicate skillfully. 6. an aesthetic and cultural appreciation. 7. a pride of country. 8. an awareness of your strengths and weaknesses. Best wishes to each of you and may you be successful in your chosen work. Sincerely, Russell L. Highlighting the year for the Beavers was a perfect 16 and 0 Red Arrow Conference record along with a thrilling victory over Berrien Springs for the District Championship. The mighty Beavers began their defense of the Regional Tournament with a victory over Hamilton and a narrow win over stubborn Bangor. In the champion- ship game of the Regional Tournament, Lady Luck was against our Beavers as the White Pigeon Chiefs won a hard-fought game, 71-60. Yes, it was a tremendous year for the Beavers and everywhere could be heard the famous cry We're Beaver Believers! The kids on the Stu- dent Council have been elected by classmates and fellow club members. They try to be a Middle man to help the demands of the administration and the demands of the students come to closer agreement. The Student Council has undertaken such worthy projects as Homecoming, clean up days, dress codes, posters, and various new odds and ends of the school. It is necessary for the Student Council to approve any school function or new club charter. The Council also collects six per cent on all money making projects that they approve. Each individual on the Stu- dent Council has the responsibility of serving his classmates to the best of his ability, by seeing that the student's opinions are not only heard, but also by seeing that something is done about them. 45 THE 1969 BEAVER BARK STAFF Front to back, left to right: Pam Skinner, Kathy Moore, Steve Churchill, Ken Allen, Pat Wolf, Don Grabe- meyer, Jayne Merrill, Debbie Felton, Margaret Karn, Harold Grabemeyer, Ass't Editor, Debbie Billings, Edi- tor, Jim Murphy, Julie Kurland, Bill Brooks, Mrs. Stroud, sponsor, Bruce Walker, and Jill Benson. SALUTATO RIAN RICHARD EUGENE HASKINS Richard Haskins, known mostly as Moose , is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Haskins of Eau Claire. Richard has been very active in sports and has received many honors, as well as having high scholastic ability. He also is a great one in the class- room with his corny jokes and devilish pranks. Richard is planning to attend East- ern Michigan University this fall. We all wish him the very best for every possible success. 82 CLAUDE ATKINS JR. All right - that wasn't funny! We are very proud to have been able to have a part in making this book and we hope that you are just as proud as you look at it. Best wishes to all. The 1969 Beaver Tales Staff 104 ADVERTISEMENTS £au @lcUne ROBERT PAYNE. PRESIDENT HARVEY NORRIS. V. PRES. 'Pactiitty FOUNDED Z 1922 — £ iu (?lcUne, '?1Cic c$4H To the Class of 1969: It is the desire of everyone to find success and happiness. Often it is thought that the acquisition of wealth will insure happiness, but nothing is farther from the truth. Happiness comes from within, and rests most securely on simple goodness and a clear conscience; with accepting life as one finds it; in giving his best in everything he does; and in the realization that no matter what ones lot in life, each of us is important. God gave each of us special talents. Who is to say any are superior? All contribute to the general good according to their gifts. In the sight of Him we are all equal. The proud and pompous need but remind themselves that Jesus was a' carpenter. Mohammed was a shepherd, and Moses was a keeper of the flocks! The skill of each of us is important to all of us. Let he who would look down upon the farmer try to grow his own food, or he who snubs the carpenter try to build his own shelter, or he who derides the taylor try to make his own clothes. Then would he acquire respect for all, and appreciation for the special con- tribution each makes to our way of life. No matter what your lot in life may be, each of you will make an important contribution to our society, and it. is our hope that each of you find true happiness in the years ahead.
