The community and school were united by the victorious achievements of the basketball and baseball team. New classroom techniques were used successfully in selected Jr. and Sr. High classes. New friends made and old ones graduated. We strove for new heights in education, sports, and co-curricular activities. There were moments of joy, humor and sorrow. These are the moments that we have endeavored to preserve for you. A The 1968 Beaver Tales Staff. 5 DEDICATION 6 DEDICATION The Annual Staff wishes to dedicate the 1968 Beaver Tales to Eau Claire's Man of the Year , Mr. George Gaunder. Although Mr. Gaunder is best known for his coaching activities, we feel that he is great in other ways as well. No one who has ever sat in Mr. Gaunder's classroom doubts that he is an excellent teacher. Mr. Gaunder instills in his students a desire to master even the most devious scholastic skills. Perhaps this is because Mr. Gaunder com- mands the respect of even the most unwilling student He stands for what he believes in. His service on the faculty negotiating team required personal convictions that what he was doing was right. He is a leader. When the rare combination of abilities that the Beaver Basketball Team possessed appears, a leader must unify the individual spirits and forge one. Mr. Gaunder succeeded in producing a championship team; a team that the community was proud of and rallied behind. For these and countless other reasons, we can only begin to express our 7 gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Gaunder. EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL THE LYBROOK BUILDING ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT In the every day life of our school we are constantly striving to meet the following imperatives: 1. To make life rewarding and staisfying. 2. To prepare people for the world of work. 3. To discover and nurture creative talent. 4. To strengthen the moral fabric of society. 5. To deal constructively with psychological tensions. 6. To keep democracy working. 7. To make intelligent use of natural resources. 8. To make the best use of leisure time. 9. To work with other peoples of the world for human betterment. If we make some progress each year we will have served our purpose on earth. Don K. Silcox Superintendent PRINCIPAL It has been said that the youth of America hold the future in their hands. I believe this to be true. In these times of loose morals and rebellious attitudes, it is refreshing to find the energies of some of our students channeled into constructive programs like yearbook sponsorship. The ability to start a job, see it through, and come up with an end product of which all can be proud is truly a step toward total acceptance of adult responsibility. Those who carry out deeds of such high caliber will have fond memories to reflect upon. Con- gratulations to the yearbook staff for a job well done. Sincerely, Russell L. Richards Principal 11 Principal Russell L. Richards Superintendent Donald K. Silcox THE EAU CLAIRE SCHOOL BOARD Sitting: Frank Paulin, Robert Koenig, Robert Palach, Donald Silcox. PRES. £ zu CcU e FOUNDED ------ 1922 ----------------------------- £ ui @taOie, 7Kic6i$4K THIS LIFE OF OURS It is a strenuous age in which we live. Everyone is trying to get ahead of someone else. Ideals are forgotten in the mad rush to acquire material posessions. Brotherly love is something that seems to make a good subject for essays, but that is all. Charity has been commercialized until all the sweetness has been squeezed out of it. The greatest need today is for more old-fashioned character, honesty, integrity, kindness, and love for one's fellow- men; a slowing down of the rush long enough for us to real- ize that we are not here for so very long a time. The best thing we can contribute to our times is tolerance and love. The surest method of receiving consideration is to give it. There is no surer way to get ahead than to help someone else achieve success. It is a steep grade, this thing called life, and we should welcome every opportunity to give our fellowmen a lift when it is needed. Life itself cannot give you joy unless you will it; Life gives you time and space, but you must fill it. It is our wish that all of you in the Class of '68 achieve success and happiness in the years ahead.
