STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council. which was organized last year, repre- sents the student body in the school government. lt is made up of two members from each of the four upper grades. During the school year. it sponsored various activities. Early in the year the members delivered handbills for the l-lalloWe'en Frolic, sold basketball pins, and arranged for a contest to name the athletic teams. Under their direction the amount of money raised in the March of Dimes was greater than ever before. The photography project was the last activity, The members received gold-plated pins if they kept a high citizenship and scholastic average. The 1948 Mirror

Due to lack of studying through the year. Junior plans a jam session in history the night be- fore the exams. His three pals, who are honor students, are called on for help. The idea is to bring the class average down so Junior can pass. This plan is disarranged by the unex- pected arrival of Uncle George. The play was under the direction of Miss Maxine Bohn. Safety Patrol Boys The Safety Patrol is an organization sponsored by the Chicago Motor Club to protect children at street crossings. It is composed of boys from grades 6, 7, and 8, and directed by Mr. Sharpe. In fair weather or foul, the patrol boys are always on the job. At a special assembly during the year two representatives of the Chia cago Motor Club praised the patrol boys lor their record of service and invited them tothe annual pi:nic this spring. Mayor Ralph Scott presented a certificate of award to the patrol since no student was in- jured at a school crossing during the past year, Larry Colaw.
