R.G.S. 14 33 42 Z4 34 29 29 14 18 26 The 1948 Mirror Lightweight Basketball Team The Iightweights had a very successful season, winning 16 games and losing only 3. They won second place in the county tournament. In the sectional tournament. they were defeated in their first game by Bellflower, the team which won the tourna' ment. Seven boys from the lightweight squad were seventh graders and two were sixth graders. Some of the boys played on both the lightweight and the heavyweight teams. Opponents R.G.S. They played two thrilling overtime games, winning one from Paxton and losing one to St. Joseph. In the county tournament, Rantoul lost to Homer in the opening game. Featherweight Basketball Team The featherweight team did not have any scheduled games. but played in the Pesotum Invitational Tournament. Here they successfully defended their county title which they won the year before. They defeated St. Joseph in the first game, 'SO to 10. Sidney was their next victim. Z5 to 6. In the final game Ogden was defeated, Z8 to 13. leaving Rantoul still the county champions. Basketball letter winners were: Reeves Adamson, Doyle Beesley, Larry Colaw, James Dunn. Roger Hulett. Ronnie Jef fords, Charles Johnson, Gene King, Lawrence Knowles, Ray mond Luttrell. Gery Maury. Duane lVlcConkey, Bob Molck, Richard Ogdon, Jerry Potts, John Sherman, Leonard Trump, and Marion Turrell. Seven of these boys will be back next year. The 1948 Mirror
