CLASS PROPHECY fffontinuedj a short skit, The Midnight Ride of Hop- Along Partridge starring I-lop himself. Other members were the villain, Dean Mc- Conkey: the hero's lady love, Lois Lewis: and the sheriff, Bobby Mettauer. The roof almost fell in with applause when Anne Wright, dressed in full cowgirl regalia, tripped lightly to the center of the stage. while Emerson Grider, her cowboy assistant. twirled the lasso while she gaily danced the light fantastic. While we were still convulsed with laugh- ter, John Sherman and his wife, the former Lynne Veling, joined us at our table. The re- mainder of the evening was spent dancing to the music of Russell Overholt's Melody Boys and enjoying the crooning of his singing star. Duane McConkey. The next morning, the Dunns thought we would enjoy a horseback ride to the Cowlick Ranch owned by Bob Molck and his charm- ing wife, the former Pat Sparks. They were indeed surprised and happy to see us. On our way home an automobile zoomed by, scaring our horses. Although we had difficulty in reining our horses, we caught a glimpse of the occupants of the car, who were Marion Tur- rell. his wife, Barbara Passmore. and their twin sons. When evening came we all enjoyed a steak fry in the Dunns' backyard. ln the course 16 of the conversation, we learned the where- abouts of others of the class. Pat Lancaster was now an instructor at a riding academy in Kansas City, Missouri. Alberta informed us that while she and Leonard were visiting in the East they encountered Margaret Mor- ris, who was the only woman professor at Harvard. She in turn told them that George Carlton was now located at Oak Ridge, Ten- nessee, where he was experimenting with cracking atoms. Wanda said she had received a letter from Rosaline Luttrell, who was re- siding in a trailer camp near Camp Howe, Texas, with her husband Sgt. Aloysius Sin- ning. Word had also been received by Al- berta that Betty Cheek was now a missionary in Jun Ming, China, and Kathleen Sheehan was residing there also as the Wife of Laddie Krackman, who was now stationed with the American Army in Nanking. After a few more days of relaxation in the Texas sunshine, we realized our vacation was rapidly drawing to a close. We decided to return to our jobs as secretaries at Chanute Air Base. Boarding the plane we were greeted by an attractive hostess, Diane James, who made our return trip very pleasant. We were then ready to resume our duties after our two weeks in Texas, the only coun- try within the United States. The 1948 Mirror
