Scholastic achievements also bring some esteem to a selected few. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding stu- dents in varied fields from different colleges and universities. The National Merit Scholarship program also provides an outlet from which students can compete for scholarships. Locally, the Sun Carnival Association provides competition for the cheerleaders, maiorettes, drum maiors, Pom Pon Girls, and Trooperettes. It has become a tradition to place high in this competition.
