“
Where the hills of Onondaga Meet the eastern sky so blue And the gold of every sunrise Seems to cast its softest hue Place them over our Alma Mater To float on breezes bold Waving proudly over Eastwood High All hail the blue and gold. If we could but leave thee never Leave thy halls we know so well But our paths lead from thee ever So we let our voices swell And we’ll rise and stand together And give a hearty cheer For Eastwood High, our Alma Mater That we hold so dear. When the shades of life are falling And clouds of dark there be Still to you ever calling Our praise shall be to thee And our thoughts are faithful ever As through a golden haze In all life's ways forgetting never Eastwood High School Days. EASTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL Syracuse, New York 'Dedication Seniors of 1956 proudly dedicate their year- book to Miss Keitha Mandigo, teacher of French to successive classes of Eastwood’s students. Skillful in dealing with students and subject matter, painstaking and patient with all, Miss Mandigo has taught many valuable lessons through her own example. A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. from The Education of Henry Adams” foreword W e, the class of 1956, have sought to reflect in the pages of The Hilltopper the gay, light- heartedness of the fun-loving people of France. The French people are renowned as well for cultural development and progress. And as we unfold our pages, we find that our senior year has held true to these same characteristics, striving at all times for achievement, success and happiness as our goal. ROBERT W. Class History The curtains opened in September and found the nominating committee for Senior Class officers busily at work. The committee presented the slate and when the final vote was counted Bill Isenhart was president; Carol Thompson, vice-president; Sue Brubaker, secretary; and George Haws, treasurer. In December the Senior Play Committee began the important task of choos- ing the Senior Play. Tryouts were held, in which over fifty seniors participated. The final cast was chosen and rehearsals began. February 4 the Senior Class presented Senior Swing in the school gym to raise money for the treasury. Elections were held for spring officers and Ralph Malandra accepted the gavel as president. Assisting him were Nina DeMario, vice-president; Anne Keller, secretary; and Peter LaNeve, treasurer. April 19 was chosen as opening night for this year’s Senior Play, All in the Family. Taking part in the play were Jeanette Charlebois, Jim DeFuria, Francine Maley, Jack Brickell, Jeanette Fiello, Roger Goodelle, George Haws, Lorin Hunt, Bob Worden, Carol Temple, Carol Pierce, John Cooper, Mary Anne Corona. May 11 was the date of the unforgettable Class Night. Many seniors dis- played hidden talents and everyone had fun at the Senior Dance held in the gym afterward. Senior Ball, the most memorable event of the senior year, took place June 1 at Hotel Syracuse. Jack Kreisher’s orchestra provided the music for the gala affair. Diplomas were presented at Commencement June 25, and the seniors passed from the halls of Eastwood High School to the world of their future—and the curtains closed.
