Girls'-Boys' State From June 10 through June 25, the campus of Indiana State University at Terre Haute, became the home for close to 2,000 high school students interested in government. The session of Hoosier Boys' State was held during the week of June 10-17. Kenny Ray and Mark Haberkorn were delegates from Eastside. Boys' State is designed by the American Legion to give the young people of Indiana a chance to learn the aspects of state and local government, and to discover a sense of pride and loyalty toward America. While learning about government, those who attended Boys' State learned the value of good citizenship, and formed lasting friendships with their peers. Hoosier Girls' State was in session from June 18-25. Miriam Graham represented Eastside. Arriving in Terre Haute on June 18, amid over 800 other girls from around the state, was just the start of a fun-filled, action-packed week for Miriam. Girls' State is set up by the American Legion Auxiliary, and follows a program similar to that of Boys' State. Good citizenship, involvement in government and national pride was stressed during the week.
