For a period of seven days, 700 girls from all over the state of Indiana studied Americanism. The Butler American Legion Auxiliary sponsored the delegate from Eastside who was chosen on the basis of essays submitted to the Auxiliary. Girl's State was a mythical state and was divided into counties, cities, precincts and two political parties. Each delegate was assigned to a political party. After elec- tions were held, the elected officials participated in their offices. Girl's State then functioned as a law-making American state. Through these experiences, the girls learned how actual state, county, and city governments function. Through this week of learning and fun, a girl can learn about co-operation, team- work, unity and friendship, as well as personal achievement and satisfaction. REPRESENTATIVES - Dave Dove, Gary sipe, Leota Curie. ALTERNATES - Brenda Armstrong, Eric johnson, Scott Graham. Top high school seniors from throughout Indiana gathered at Indiana State University for the 38th annual Hoosier Boy's State during the week of june 7-14. These boys are sponsored by the American Legion of Indiana. Those who attend Boy's State are chosen from boys who will be entering their senior year the following fall after Boy's State, and are chosen by a committee of people who include faculty, administration, and possibly someone from the local American Legion Post. They are chosen on the basis of leader- ship, scholarship, mental attitude, and the possibility of becoming a future politician. Upon arrival at Hoosier Boy's State the boys are assigned a county and city. Most of. the week is spent on learning about basic politics. There are several counties and each county has two cities. After two days of bookwork you get down to electing county and city officials, just like in the real world. There are offices varying from city garbage collector to county sheriff. From the county level we moved up to the office of state officials, such as state legislatures and a governor. An actual session of legislature was held for both parties -- Nationalist and Federalist. During the week there was a contest between each city to determine which one would be the honor city. 42 Senior Power I' 2 1 1 SECRET SENIORS, CLOCKWISE: Mr. Fallis, Marcia Brown, Sherry Alloway, Sherry Strawn, Cathy Lambert, Patty Bond, . ry u Leota Cune, Che lKandel A-1 v 5 -. 4. , .,,, .. JUST OFF BROADWAY Lulu l-laddock's theatrical broadway house was the setting for this year's fast moving and delightful Christmas comedy directed by Annacarol Lampe, assisted by Glenna Cairl. A cast of seven seniors and two juniors gave fine performances on Thursday, December 18, and Friday, December 19. The boarders were young hopefuls struggling to gain a foothold in show business. They included Dink Davis, a would be magician with his big chance just ahead, Smily Burke, an unappreci ated comic who only needed one break to prove he's better than all of today's top comics combined, Bea Gladd, a television actress who dreams of being a great star and meanwhile was type- cast as a dialect comedieene, Eloise Pringle, Miss I-lohokus of 1973, and Patsy Short, a once great dancer. Lulu Haddock was featured in the Follies of 1929 and had dreamed that her daughter, Carol, would follow in her foot- steps. Carol, however, hated show business. She was a shy little introvert, who'd rather live her dreams than get out and meet the world. Her mother had been nagging her to pay more attention to Mr. Baxter, an eccentric in- ventor and their star boarder. To get some peace and be left alone, Carol had dreamed up an imaginery Tony jones, with whom she carried on an extensive correspondence. Imagine her bewilderment when a Tony jones ap- peared and announced he had come to hold Carol to her promise of marriage. The disclosure of identity contri- buted to a startling and hilarious denouncement. . Q- - -Ron Ladd - The great outdoorsm an. All year plans were being made for this special evening. Then on April 2-1, the juniors played host to the senior class at this year's prom which was entitled Dream On. The evening began at 7:30 p. m. at East- side's cafetorium where everyone enjoyed the catered banquet. Shortly afterwards, repre- sentatives from the Parker Sheldon School of Karate performed to the audience's delight. Following this fine demonstration, everyone proceeded down to the gym where the Earl Zimmerman Orchestra furnished music for the couples' dancing pleasure. For those who wanted to preserve their memories of the prom, they could have their picture taken by KFS Studio of Garrett who was present during the evening. The highlight of the prom came at midnight when last year's prom king and queen relinquished their crovms to the new reigning king and queen. After this crowning students had a lapse of time in order to change clothes for the af- ter - prom which lasted from 1:00 a. ni. to 4:00 a. m. During this time a casino assisted by the Butler Eagles, American Legion, Lions, Rotary, plus the Spencerville Community Club, Riverdale PTO, and the St. joe Lions Club was held in the cafetorium. Music was also provided by a rock group, Gas, Food, and Lodging from Ft. Wayne. The prom was concluded with an early breakfast at -1:00 a. m. After the long and en- joyable evening, students parted with lasting recollections of the 1976 junior - Senior prom Night X ' 1 X -'rf ? . A ' ! Lge!-F j N X doe... It's been a special year because of our country's Bi- centennial birthday. In order to recognize this fact, the annual was done in red, white, and blue. Scott Graham also designed a special cover. I'd like to take this time to thank him and to tell him how proud we are of 'this cover. Not many people- realize how much work goes into the makings of a yearbook, I guess I never did until I was put in charge. For this reason I'd like to recognize the people that made this yearbook possible. Marty Loy took many of the pictures in this annual, but Glenna Cairl and Patti Markle came in at the last moment to finish up the senior candids. I'd like to thank Dawn Billings for the Work she did, collecting scores and also taking photos. Phyllis Gardlik helped me with the layouts. Recognition is also in order for those who stayed to help type like Sherry Alloway, Carolyn DePriest, and Cher Emenhiser. Sheri Miller was business manager this year. She did a lot of work. organizing re- ceipts and drawing up advertisements. Laurie Ross was assistant editor, who came down often during the day to help completelayouts. Whatever was needed to be done, she did it along with Patti. Thanks to every one. I realize I might have overlooked some please forgive me, but I'd like to say thank you to the whole staff. ' This book wouldn't be done if it hadn't been for all the help andcooperation given by the administration. I appreciate all the help the coaches gave during the year when it came to getting scores and organizing their teams for pictures. The same applies to all the sponsors who helped us name pictures of their groups. I'd like to thank Mr. Penix who took the faculty pictures, plus others, when needed. Also thank you Mr. Williams for thetsupervision you gave when picture days occurred. ', ' Special recognition goes to Mrs. Hood, the annua1's sponsor, who helped me during the year. She kept us going in order to meet deadlines and never lost her 'temper when We wouldn't cooperate. Next year I hope you have as much fun putting together an annual as I did this year.
