There’s so many things we've learned, not all have been from the books — Now walk off to look for America. Teacher — | said — as he called my own class together, What do we fight about, why is there war? But through our time here we've learned that there’s peace somewhere — I'll go to look for America. Searching for truth as well as false things in the world — Until we realize the difference as we cross them by. Now it is finished, we’ve completed day after day. Wanting to leave but glad that we stayed. So now, we turn around and face anew goal ... It’s a big wide world out there. Her future plans are to attend Indiana University at Bloomington. WHEN THE JOURNEY STARTS... Nobody knows when the journey starts What he'll find along the way — A storm-tossed sea, a thicket of thorns Or a quiet, peaceful bay ... Nobody knows when the journey starts If he will travel alone Or in the company of cherished friends That he can call his own ... There is no map for the journey To guide our footsteps along Only our youth, our faith in ourselves And our courage to keep us strong... For youth is the time of hopes and dreams When life’s journey is only begun Till the hills and the valleys are safely crossed And the summit is finally won. Jerry Worman Debbie Yoder Brad Zeisloft The juniors really got things together and made this a year to remember. Besides hold- ing the concession stand, they presented the football players with donuts and apple cider. The juniors were in charge of the maga- zine sales and broke, not only their goal, but all school records with a grand total of $8506.75 making a sizable profit to go to- wards the prom and next year’s senior act- ivities. Juniors showed their spirit in many ways throughout the school year. More times than not they won the spirit stick, they won the sectional poster contest, and it was also a junior who won the individual locker con- test. In the middle of the year the juniors sent money to the Northern Cheyenne Indian Re- servation in hopes that it would make things a little easier. For their class party they showed the movie “Wait Until Dark’. Afterwards, Scott Mc- Dowell and Mike Mickelson’s group played while everyone danced. The highlight of the Junior year was the prom, with the theme being ‘‘Un Jour du Paris’. For after prom _ entertainment “Atlantis” played. The juniors would like to thank their sponsors, Mr. Wagner and Mr. Zonker, for helping to make this a great year. 50 Jr. Pickles are Mmmm GOOD!!! The Sophomore class of 1975 had a very productive year. The two main events that they experienced were the ordering and receiving of class rings and jackets. They decided to change the styles of the rings by ordering oval shaped ones instead of the common square style. The class colors of purple and white were chosen for their jackets. The Sophomores showed their spirit by winning the spirit stick many times and being the cheerblock for the WOWO Air Aces. Two horror films were shown at their first class party. The second was a dance and pizza party. Many faculty members give up great amounts of their time to sponsor extra-curricular activities. Their duties range from coaching to guiding classes, to advising organi- zations. Without the leadership of Capable faculty members, many of these activities would not be in existence. _Teachers were active in the area of sports too. The most import- ant to the students was the dress code revision. The 1973 Homecom- ing was planned with a dance, par- ade, and coronation. ‘‘Pride in East- side’’ week, “Field Day’’ and the sectional poster contest were ar- ranged to help raise spirit. Convos were selected for student enjoy- ment. They also created three new committees to help manage school rules and discipline; Student Re- lations, Curriculum Advisory Com- mittee, and Constitution Commit- tee. In junction with the AV Club, they put up over a hundred ‘“‘No Deer Hunting” signs to protect But- ler’s mascot, Suzy. Each year the Spanish Club sponsors a scholar- ship fund in order for several students to go to Torreon, Coahuila Mexico. This year the club sent three girls: Chris Keller, Linda Girardot and Ruth Angelone. The program involves a six week Summer school. The participants stay in a Mexican home and are helped to fit in to the society and culture. There’s an option to go to Mexico City for four days. This tour includes visiting the famous Church of Guadalupe, the University of Mexico, several mark- et places and some other historical sights. The girls would like to thank all the donors who contributed toward the scholarship. In appreciation they provide a_ night’s entertainment at club meet- ings by showing their slides and souvenirs. The trip is a meaningful experience. It provides a chance to see how others live in a different coun- try. It is hoped that this worthwhile program will be continued for many years. 88 TT EI Club Amistad FIRST ROW: Miss Smith, Sponsor; Tammy Sherer, Secretary; Tim Reed, President; Kris Foster, Treas.; Teresa Timmerman, V. The football season began with a new kind of feeling this year. The new coaching staff really had the guys fired up. We wanted the crowd to match this enthusiasm and during the year both adults and students worked very hard to prove their spirit. Throughout the basketball and football seasons we worked hard to support the team by decorating locker rooms, preparing orange slices for the teams at half time, and decorating the players’ buses. Now that you've turned to the final page in the 1973 Easterner, | hope you take time to read this note. It takes a lot of imagination and determination to publish a yearbook. One could never realize just how much unless they have done it themselves. There are several people who | would like to give a sincere thanks for standing by me and helping me this past year. Linda Girardot, commonly known as my right hand, was our Business Manager this year. She and her staff organized and carried out the advertisement campaign. After her work was done she was always there to help me meet deadlines. She gave up many nights after school to prepare layouts and copy. | could never truly express how thankful | am that she was there. Pam Timmerman, Sherry Maloy, and Dora Fetters also spent a lot of time with pictures and typing. They certainly took a lot of work off my hands. Thank you. The artwork that you have seen throughout the book was done by Wendy Wilson, Kenny White, and Mrs. Lois Girardot. It’s these added touches that make this yearbook unique. They deserve a sincere thanks. At the beginning of this year | started out with very little know- ledge about the publications business. There are two people who took a tremendous amount of patience with me and taught me the basics: Mr. James Arthur and Mr. Photographer (Don). | wish to thank them and apologize for all the headaches | put them through. As | said before Linda and | spent many nights after school to produce this book for you. Several people need to be recognized for their helpfulness. The night custodians were very nice to us when we wanted in our publications room at night. Also thank you very much to the person who didn’t get mad at me for spending so many hours away from home. The food you brought us was good too! A special thanks goes to Mrs. Hood, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Wagner for giving us their guidance and time. Mrs. Hood was very open minded when listening to some of our crazy ideas. Thanks to my layout committee. They spent nights away from home to think up captions, draw up pages and ended up watching T.V. 95% of the time, but | could have never gotten along without them. This year has been rewarding and challenging, but most of all, fun. | enjoyed it and | appreciate all the people who stopped by to see how we were doing. Even though we put a lot of hard work into publishing this book, it’s the advertisers and the subscribers who make it possible. | hope this book lets you remember the good and happy times at pee The moment is gone, but the memories will always e there. Take care everyone: Sincerely, Ruth E. Angelone 1973 Editor by deh Demeter s:, wat © Ay ' hs dha ‘ hae pul Pa aay me s ee Maas er 4 ; Ae ve. : P AP YAS i:
