As this year draws to a finish, the Senior Class is looking for- ward to the day coming when we shall take our places in this world of tomorrow. Perhaps we may some day look in a newspaper and say of the first man to the moon, I went to school with him. ' Or perhaps some great scientist, from our class, will discover the cure for some terrible disease or invent some great device that will improve civilization. Yes, the time has come for another group of young adults to go into the wild blue yonder and plant their feet in the stars. This final year, the Class of i965 was active. Senior pictures arrived, and a mad rush began to get every other Senior's picture to keep for memory's sake. Name cards, thank-you notes, and announcements were ordered and received, and excitement mounted toward the climax, graduation. This year the Class of 1966 started the year with a magazine drive which resulted in over a $1000 profit. They watched the Seniors go through their activities, and longed for the time to come when they would be the highest class in the high school. Now, as Juniors, they are in sight of that final goal to be achieved in school. Juniors were found in almost every club and activity and did their part to arouse school spirit and make this school a greater one than it was. The team was shifted into another league, which was definitely of greater strength and competition. Due to the outstanding coaching of Coach Bedwell and the team's never dying spirit and team play, the Blazer record was virtually indestructable. Jeff Myers and Dennis Reinoehl sparked the offensive drive for the Blazers, while Terry Wilson and Dave Haberkorn eluded the opposition with their well-developed pitching talents. Girl’s and Boy’s State Representatives BOY’S STATE Jim Harter and Bob Stiver GIRL’S STATE Michele Davis and Kathie Oiler During the summer of 1964, four students of EHS were given the honor of attending the American Legion sponsored program of Boy's and Girl's State. The program was instituted to give young men and women experience in run- ning their own state government. The young people elect their own governors, and all state, county, and city officials. They are also instructed in the use of voting machines and the functions of political parties. All the young people | are selected for their good character, interest in government, as well as | interest in their fellow students and the communities. Girl's and Boy's State are very rewarding experiences, and each individual profits much by that one week very well spent. 122 Another year is culminating and the doors of Eastside High will soon close. For some, this will end twelve years of study and extracurricular participation and Eastside will be- come a pleasant memory as we pass into another phase of life. For others, memories are yet to be made and they wiil return in September to familiar faces and places. Eastside's legacy is cognizant of no class or age, laughter and reminiscences will always remain even though its schol- ars fade. 123 A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR With the 1965 Easterner completed; as the editor, I would like to say that it has been a pleasure and a challenge to edit this book for you. To make this book a success, many people have happily given their time I would like to express appreciation to the numerous people who make it possible: to our advisor, Mr. Sherer, who de- voted long hours of hard work after school proofreading pages and directing my staff in meeting pressing deadlines: to Mr. Myers, for his leniency and understanding toward the staff and myself when demands for pictures, liberty, and advice was sought; to Mr. Rouch, who arranged for the athletics pictures to be taken; to Mr. Morrisson, who helped prepare the hand pictures; to the typists, who spent long after school helping the book to meets its deadlines which were all too soon; to the business manager, Kathie Oiler, who sold advertising which kept the book financially stable. without the assistance of these people this book would not have been possible. Once again, it has been a pleasure to edit your 1965 yearbook and I hope it will bring back all of the memories of the 1964-65 school year. Yours truly, Gene Sible Editor of 1965 124
