D E IVI O N S' S F2 FAMILY LIFE CONFERENCE T ATHLETICS AT EASTSIDE: THE WINS AND LOSSES By Jacky Hunt Athletics, as much as anything else, has played an important part at Eastside High School. Eastside has always been known as a pro- ducer of fine football teams and relatively fair basketball and base- ball te ams. The year of 1968 was no exception. The Demons football team posted a four and one district record, losing only to our arch-rival Westside High. The Demons record on the year was seven to four. The four and one in district play was good enough to give Eastside the District Championship solely for the first time in the schools history. Although the Demons have been tied for the district championship and finished second on numerous occasions. Feeling the fangs of the Demons in '68 were Springville, 6--O, McCall, 32--65 Pincrest, 33--123 jackson 13--O5 Lincoln 26--125 Richardson 7--65 and Grambling High 19--7. During this time the Demons were distributing losses among Richwood 25--14, Westside, 12--7, Morehouse, 19--73 and a playoff lost to McCall 21--20. Al- though the Demons could advance no further than the zone play-offs, I it wasn t because of a lack of spirit. With a large host of juniors and sophomores returning the Demons should advance farther. SAFETY PATROL ORGANIZED Safety at Eastside was an un- derstood but unspoken word until someone took the time to place some rules of safety into words. Mr. Leonard Irving, a student teacher at Eastside '68-369, or- ganized the patrol. To abet the character and moral of Eastside Students, Mr. The outlook of the basket- ball team is not as bright as football was, but the Demons do muster out a few wins. Although the basketball play- ers are not champions, they can play the spoiler and beat the top teams on any given night. The girl's team is above average and have proven this on several oc- casions. The president of this institu- tion is Dr. Lucy J. Mclntosh. The theme for the year is Strength- ening Lines of Communication Between Family Members. The film will be on the subject of WALK IN THEIR SHOES: Child-Parent Communication. The film is about a young man and his younger sister. Stan and his younger sister, Sheryl, re- sent their parents' interference in their affairs. They feel they are mature enough to make their own rules re- garding dating and socializing with friends. When Stan is given the chance to take care of Sheryl while the parents

D E IVI O N S' RA I D EDITORIAL: Take One Giant Step And Freeze Today, in these times when no one is deprived of anything, we tend to take things very lightly, with very little concern about the next day or in the future days to come. No one with good control of all his faculties would say that edu- cationally we are not being neglected. We can only say that after STUDENTS CEHSD CHOSEN FOR LIALO Eastside's best will be rep- resented at the LIALO Testing at Carroll High School on February 1, 1969. Today, we see high school as being a place where we are in- clined to find social graces or to become an athletic hero. Others try to make it by playing the age- old game of favoritism among the teachers. Some students often become parasitic, this is to say they have others to get out their lesson while they talk to their favorite girl. Upon entering college t.hese very students are the one who have to hope, wish, and pray: 113 hope that they can grasp and understand what is being said, f2j wish for all the good knowledge that the teach- ers in high
