PHILOSOPHY We believe that education is both a right and a privilege of all youth and that education is a privilege for adults. The Eastside High School administration and faculty, with the aid of agencies outside the school, prepare students to operate more effectively in a democratic society through formal instruction, other activities, and services. We relate instruction and activities to experiences' in such a manner that students can grow physically, socially, mentally, mor- ally, emotionally, and civically according to their maturation levels. The teacher is a source of information, inspiration, and guidance. We believe that the relationship among the administration, teachers, pupils, and other school personnel should be friendly, personalized, and mutually respectful. Students are promoted on the basis of individual application and progress. We believe that the curriculum should be broad and offer as many courses and activities as the facilities and personnel will allow. In addition to required subjects, we offer elective cotuses in English, mathematics, and science. Student activities, which are an integral part of our curriculum, enrich the curriculum and prepare students for more effective com- munity life. Eastside High School is the nucleus of our community activities. It influences com- munity thought and action and is in turn influenced by community thought and reaction. Our school is the cultural, recreational, and civic center of the communities which it serves, also, it is the chief source of education for the youth and adults in these communi- ties. 51
