I, 1948-Here I am in a strange room, in a strange bed, and I know I'll never sleep tonight even though I'm dead tired. I've inet so many new people, l don't see how I'll ever remember their names. Xf'Ve had a lovely picnic supper in our back yard tonight. I can hear the house mother coming up the hall now opening and closing doors, so I'd better cut this short. October 19118-Now I'm really beginning to feel more like a nurse after a month of books, books, and more books. I wonder if I'll ever pass those exams. Today we received our uniforms and will wear them tomorrow for the First time. I'Ve are almost ready to go on the floors now as we have already learned how to give baths, enemas, etc.-I can hardly wait! Dec. 22, l91l8-lfVhat a wonderful night! I went to our Mistletoe Ball g Georgie sent me white gardenias and I wore my black gown. I can hardly believe I am going on a two week vacation: it will be so good not hav- ing to get up at 6 A. M. February I9-I9-My aching feet! I had four patients today and had to be finished by I0 o'clock to go to class. I just about made it-I don't see how the older students get hnished with their patients. March 13, I9-I9-Now we look just like the Intermediates and Seniors as we too now have a cap and bib. It's amazing how differ- ent I feel when I go on duty. july 1949-Tl1e1'e's nothing like working over a hot stove in the middle of the summer. I'm so lucky to be working in the Diet Kitch- en when the temperature goes up to IOOD F. In just a few short weeks I will be basking in the sun at the sea shore. September 194-9-It feels great not being the youngest students anymore. We are hav- ing a party tonight to celebrate our first anni- versary. To think, that a year ago I was a scared inquisitive little probie. December 1949-A gay time was had by all tonight at the Holly Ball. l'Ve have completed some of our special services such as the Operating Room, and Maternity and are gaining new and more advanced knowledge each day. March 1950-This month the students re- ceived their capsg it was a lovely affair. Some of our advanced classes will be over. l'll miss classes because it gives me a chance to rest my Twemv-six 4-'Q aching feet. I'Ve are all kept busy with bake sales, fashion shows, etc., to make money for our yearbook. -june l95UgAhl the warmth again. I'Vhat a beautiful time for six of my classmates to go for their psychiatric alliliation. It seems strange not seeing them around anymore. September l950-At last, we are seniors. lt hardly seems possible-time certainly flies. l'Ve had a wonderful second anniversary party out of doors tonight, swimming, hot dogs, moonlight, and cool evening breezes. December 1950-In spite of the terrible ice and snow our Holly Ball was a success. Vacations, completion of special services, and more classes will comprise our next few months of training. April l95l-The past three months which I have spent on affiliation at Philadelphia State Hospital, holds memories that l shall never forget. I have made many new friends from the various affiliated schools along with the schizophrenics and manic depressives. May 13-18, l95l-Oh, here a whole week has gone by and I have been so busy I haven't had time to write in my diary. Sunday night we listened to an impressive sermon by Rev. Ifreed of the College Hill Presbyterian Church. The church was packed and I could feel my knees shaking as I walked down the aisle-our first night in white. VVC had the most wonderful time at our dinner dance at the Hotel Easton. The queen, Mary Salay, and her attendants, Rose Rapp, Barbara Keith, Betty lfVasser, Catherine johnson, IfVin- nie Kolus, and Gloria Pfeffer, reigned over the party. Then the big day, Tuesday-grad nation-at Easton I-Iigh School. Our parents all came to the reception held in the living room of the nurse's home. Vlfednesday we had an out door supper given by Mrs. Korschen, where we all enjoyed ourselves playing base- ball. Thursday a banquet at Frank's Top Hat was given by the graduate staff. The cele- brations ended with the animal Alumnae Banquet also at Hotel Easton. I think I've gained at least ten pounds this week. And so to bed. August 31, l95l, will soon be here and then we will receive our diplomas and wear a white uniform. It has been a wonderful three years of training and time nor space will permit me to continue with all of our happy times but I am sure we will never for- get these training days. fast Will and Zfesfamsrzf lfVe, the Class of 1951, being of sound mind and of a be le '-Qiifi do 11 wish at this time to dispose of our earthly possessions to thos Q .- .' a' t zn we before we depart from these portals as the greatest class u- ate ' om the Easton Hospital School of Nursing. Having been welcomed by Miss Morris and Mrs. Booth to our new home for the forthcoming three years, we proceeded to make new acquaintances and to unpack our belongings. That evening the seniors entertained us at a doggie roast. Then came Fri- day, Miss Caffrey and Miss Scrima gave us our uniforms and yes-books-books -and more books! The intermediates then held a circus party for us which we enjoyed immensely. By this time we were tired and went home to spend a nice quiet weekend with our families and friends. On Monday we returned, eager to begin classes and hard work. March 7-excitement and anxiety prevailed. The event, that long awaited day, capping! Our work on the wards began in December and we enjoyed it very much. Vacations, dances, parties, and other social events were all part of our cur- riculum and added pleasure to our stay here. The first three days we hiked over the 1600 acres getting acquainted with 6300 patients. We matlemany new friends among the patients and students from ten other schools of nursing. We will never forget our many experiencesg peeling onions, patients escaping, tramping through mud, torn uni- forms, and chasing the many stray, wild cats. As the weeks went by we became very fond of state and when it was time to depart there were tears in our eyes. Rumor has it that a few of our girls are considering returning to P S H.
