The Space Ship Journal Of 1969 I was attending the Easton All-School Carnival of 1969. I was greatly surprised to See how Easton had changed since my high school days. As I was milling through the crowd, I bumped into Mrs. Ronnie Knadler, the former Nancy Gray, who was busy trying to keep her three young sons together. While talking to Nancy I learned that Beverly Ebling had married Larry Freeman, and they had gone to the moon to start a chain of department stores. In the far corner of the auditorium, by the dart throw, I ran into several other members of the senior class of '59 and their families. The topic of the group's conversation had to do with the possibilities of success on the moon. Johnnie Rapp and Donald Modrell and their families were seriously considering buying a rocketship and moving to the moon. However, Junior Bohr seemed quite satisfied with Earth and said he was doing quite Well with his exclusive night club in Los Angeles. Ken Brown put in that he couldn't possibly consider leaving his tobacco farm. He was raising so much tobacco that he had built a small tobacco factory of his own. Larry Gawatz seemed to like Johnnie and Donald's plan and decided to accompany them to the moon. Larry had been working in a rocket ship factory-- He crawls inside the nose to make all adjustments of the screws and rivets--one day the nose cone was placed on the rocket without removing Larry--so whoosh-- Larry had a vacation on the moon. -l- Mr. Beggs was still superintendent of Easton but he now had about 1500 students to watch over. Mr. Beggs was talking to Mr. Banasik who was still coaching at Easton. Mr. Banasik seemed quite enthusiastic about his Blue Comets, who hadn't lost a football game all season. Mr. Beggs informed me that Mr. Stevenson, Easton's ex-coach for girls' basketball, was now coaching a professional women's basketball team. Dixie Ham and Tommy Archdekin were discussing business by the refreshment stand. Tom, who was President and a large stockholder in a large rocket ship corporation, was considering buying some of Dixie's designs for the interior of rockets. These plans feature all the latest home conveniences and Dixie was quite proud of them. Talking quietly in one of the class rooms I found Mrs. Pool, who used to teach Home Economics at Easton, and Mrs. Weston, who had been Easton's typing and publications' teacher. Mrs. Pool was now helping solve the problem of teaching Home Economics to the moon people. And Mrs. Weston was the head of a large publishing company. Mrs. Weston told me that her company had recently published a book by Sam McQuerry, a former student of Easton. His book was entitled Blast-Off and it told about his adventures into space. Just as Mrs. Pool was telling me about Mrs. Baker's great success as our first goodwill ambassador to the moon, a very loud annoying ringing drowned out the carnival scene. Iwas aroused by the continuous ringing of the telephone as I was only day-dreaming. 1969 is ten years away, but I can't help but wonder if my day dream about Easton's graduating class of 1959, will come true.
