The spring of 1951 introduced tennis as an inter-scholastic sport to Easton High. Al- though last year eight players were picked to play in a match with Salisbury, this year is the first year lfaston has had an organized team. Salisbury won the opening match at Easton last year, but our boys and girls came bouncing back over there to win. The teams on Eastonis schedule for '5l' are Salisbury, Cambridge, Seaford, and one other school in Delaware. The senior class hopes that tennis will remain on Easton Higlfs athletic program for a long time to come. Tennis R. Chap- 5 I I ! F t Field Day JR. VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL First Row: P. Elliott, J. Many things were bothering me. Oh, yes, I was going to graduate-but what then? A job, col- lege, Uncle Sam? What was I going to do? And my friends in the graduating class? They had been such fun. What did the future hold for them? Hi, son, came a crackling voice behind me. You look kinda worried. What's bothering you? I turned around and saw an old man with grizzly beard and kind sparkling eyes. He was bending over a big basket of oysters and holding an oyster knife in his hand. Just thinking, I replied. Waal, that's kinda unusual for most folks, I always say. Now, just what's bothering ye? That was all I needed. I launched into a long tale of my woes and those of my classmates. The old man sat and smiled, his hands busy with the oyster knife. Waal, what do ye know! he exclaimed. There's a big funny-looking pearl in this here oyster. Now, what do ye make 0' that? and he laid a hard object in my hand. I turned the strange object around in my hand, pressing it all the while. Suddenly the sides of the pearl seemed to crumble and a wet soggy piece of paper lay in the palm of my hand. What on earth is this? I asked in amazement. Open it up and see, son, suggested the old man, with a sparkle in his eyes. I spread open the bit of paper and, to my great surprise, saw my own name and a sentence about me. David F ehsenfeld wins first award as Life's star pho- tographerf' Want a knife, son? asked the old man-and I began frantically shucking away.
