STEP . . One of the finest additions to the staff was the iournalism office. It is located in room 120. Working in it at the moment are Connie Brown, copy editor, and the Shield adviser, Mrs. Hicks. 82 SHIELD Help! Help! cry the staff members as they wade through piles of paper looking for ? ? ? Label those pictures. Type that copy, calls Mrs. Hicks from her desk. Through a iumble of clack- ing typewriters, bustling photographers, outbursts of laughter, and last-minute copy writing, the Look out, staff! Co-editors, Mar- grit and Jennifer are cooking up another new idea. Junior staff members typed and read proofs as training for other iobs in the future. They are Barbara Pursell, Barry Hilton, Lynn Balthasar, Bobbie Shaw, July Pilzer, Marilyn Renick, art editor, and Sue Douthit. STEP.. THE... ter and spring quarters at Ohio State this year. Sixty were selected out of a Freshman Class of 5010. STUDE TS Barry Hilton placed first in the state in the 1959 Ohio District-State Scholar- ship Tests in first year algebra. l i Mari Werlin and Elaine Avren received certificates and pins for placing in the Ameri- can Legion essay contest sponsored by Bexley Post. Their essays were then entered in the state contest. Eileen Collins and Sidney Townsend took college level courses at Ohio State Uni- versity during summer quarter and earned A's in them. Eileen has also won the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award. Seniors who placed in the top five percent of the Ohio General Scholarship Test are John Thomas, Eileen Collins and Ry Poole in the first row, Those placing in the top ten percent are Barry Friedman, Bill Gillam, Dave Frederick, Cynthia Husted, Frank Hoffman, Rachel Egbert, Jennifer Douthit, Penny Wainer, Roy Kollmer, and Don Allison in the second row. 8l

STAFF yearbook deadlines are finally reached. Ad-sellers comb The town for business ads, and homerooms are bombarded with collectors for yearbook money. All This and more goes Toward bringing you The greatest SHIELD yet. Members of The business staff are First row: Beth Amstutz, book- keeping, Sharon Jarvis, subscrip- tion manager, Second row: Alena Davis, Cynthia Husted, business manager, Peggy Colegrove, ad- vertising manager, and Lana Senft. Sharon Jarvis, subscription manager, Cynthia Husted, busi- ness manager, and Peggy Cole- grove, advertising manager are puzzling over how tight the budget is. EHHELD. TAKES SHAPE A typical day iust before a deadline. Members of the staff are spending their semester vacation at school making out copy sheets. Members for 1960 of QUILL AND SCROLL, the international honorary society for high school journalists, are Margrit Bauer, co-editor, Peggy Colgrove, advertising manager, Jennifer Douthit, co-editor, Barbara Molten- berry, -music editor, and Nancy Welch, senior class and index editor. The criteria for membership are scholastic rank in the upper third of the senior class, superior achievement in iournalism, and outstanding service To Eastmoor. Our chapter was founded in 1958.
