junior Varsity Baseball t Its Best K' Al The 1986 junior Varsity Baseball Team. The junior Varsity Base- ball Team, coached by Robert Peele, had a success- ful year. The overall record was 9-5. The j.V. Team con- sisted of Carlton Coney, john Denny, Scott Herring, Ricky Hooks, Chris Hux, john Cerken, Kenny james, Ceordie Kelly, and Mike Trujillo. john Denny received the Most Improved Player Award. Coach Peele stated, H1 was generally pleased with the season as a whole. Our record was good considering we had a smaller group of' players than normal. WVith lesser numbers, a team suf- fers in areas of talent. This team was as talented as previous groups and their ei- tort paid off in a successful seasonf' Mike Trujillo, third base- man stated, Thc team had trouble at practice in the beginning of the year, but they settled down and start- ed working together. The girls had a trying time during their games because they had to fight to win. Three seniors have taken their skills outside Eastern Wayne. Valerie Gardner received a scholarship for softball and basketball to Louis- burg College. Dorraine Iennings is now playing softball and studying pre- med at the University of Texas. Gina Coor is play- ing softball at Peace College. Returning players are Robin Coor, Dawn Gray, 'T' SoHba1 Angela Herring, Kim Hinnant, Cynthia Mas- sengill, Sissy Owen, Amy Price, Nachon Adams, Lisa Baumann, and Caroyn Sims. Coach Nancy Dawson believes the girls will be even better than last year if they continue to have good spirit and determi- nation. Last year, Eastern Waynels coaching staff received a valuable change. Coach Nancy Dawson became the coach of the softball and tennis teams. Coach Dawson at- tended Atlantic Christian College, however, she graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Although she did not play varsity sports
