Eastern Wayne Goes Al of the 4- The Eastern Wayne Baseball Varsity Team ended the 1985-86 season with a bang by capturing the State 4-A Baseball title. The team, coached by Carl Lancaster, de- feated six teams to win the championship. Carl Marshbanks, the team pitcher, was named most valuable player. The baseball team opened the season on a good note by winning the Southern Wayne Invitational Tournament. The team tended the season with a 17-4 record, not includ- ing tournament victories. Many players were offered scholarships as well as professional con- tracts. Mike Couture accepted a scholarship to Clemson, although he was offered a contract with the St. Louis Cardi- nals, a full scholarship to East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina, and Louisburg College. Carl Marsh- banks accepted a scholar- ship from Louisburg College. What I'm proud of is that weive made the state playoffs four out of five years, with three confer- ence championships and one second place finish. That,s got to rank us as having one of the top baseball programs in the state, D so stated Carl Lan- caster.
