When the NHS Club attended the ceremony at Charles B. Ayeoek Birthplace, Dianna Downs and Monica Cray participated in sawing wood. Members get excited at the First History Club meeting as the ollicers are elected and the field trips are planned. Fellowship of Christian Athletes FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The purpose of FCA is to confront the coaches and athletes with the challenge and adventure of accepting Christ, serving Him through the church, and learning how to apply faith in athletics and everyday life. FCA has participated in many difterent activities such as dis- cussing ofproblems and how to handle them, playing ofgames for the enjoyment, and listening to outside speakers such as college athletes for gaining advice. In addition to all of this, they have Bible study. The sponsor of FCA is Coach Billy Wolfe. This year, instead of officers, they had an executive council. The Executive Council consisted of Scott Edmonson, Chris Bowers, Mark jennings, Ken Pennington, and Will Faircloth. Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Keenness ofthe eye and skill of the hand create precision craft- ing-VICA Wocational Industrial Clubs ofAmericaQ. A group ofin- dividuals, dedicated to the concepts ofleadership, started the year off right by winning first prize in the pumpkin carving contest for the Homecoming Dance. During the year the members participated in a club carnival by playing softball, volleyball, and frisbee. After the carnival, the club members enjoyed pizza and refreshments. They also went to the 0'Berry Center and had a Christmas party for the children. They provided refreshments and played games. VICA took many field trips to places such as the N.C. State Fair and the State Tournaments. The members competed in drafting, electronics, carpentry, and engine work. YICA's fundraiser this year was sel- ling candy bars. The ofticers for 1986-1987 were President - Christy Green, Vice-President - Michelle Harker, Secretary 4 Donald Benton, Treasurer - Mike Budstiker: Parlimentarian f Robert Bolarg and Reporter -james Moore. The Club sponsors were George Summerlin, john Carr, janet Hooks, Theo Van Loon, julie Capps, and Mike Brown. American Field Service AFS fAmerican Field Servicel Clubis main objective is to promote an understanding of the diversified cultures and people of other nations. The Eastern VVayne branch of the AFS Club worked hard to fulfill this objective in the school and community environment. At each club meeting, there were programs about difterent cul- tures and ofcourse business was discussed. Speakers from many countries talked to the group about their countries, cultures and customs. Eastern W'ayne High School had one exchange student this year. Her name was Kati Sepponen and she lived with Cindy Smith and her familv. . tion ceremonies, and a scholarship given to the outstanding senior member each year. The Beta Club induction ceremony was held on October 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eastern Wayne Senior High School Media Cen- ter. Parents and faculty were invited to observe new and old members light candles to show their club spirit. Barb Bond represented the new members and accepted the challenge given to the members by David Taylor, the representative of the old members. Refreshments were served, and thus ended a night to remember for many scholars. The Beta Club was served by President - Robin Coor, Vice President - Montez Lane, Secretary - Beth Bandy, and Treasurer - Selena Cox. The club,s advisor was Mrs. Mary Daughtry. Thanks to the officers and enthusiastic club members, Beta Club had a successful year. Science Club The Science Club, which meets the first Wednesday of every month, was created to inform, enlighten, and entertain students. The club invites professors and scientists to speak to the club about their experiences with science or about careers in science. This year, Bob Kruger ofWayne Community College and Vince Adkins of North Carolina State University spoke to the club. The Science Club also sponsors a road rally in the fall and spring. The rally is not a race, but a test ofthe ability to follow instructions and a test of mathematical skills. The contestants are given a set ofin- structions to follow. These instructions give directions to follow and the average speed to follow while driving. The Science Club oflicers for 1986-1987 were President- David Taylor, Vice President - Paul Siler, Secretary - Diana Richard- son, and Secretary - Emily Bell. Future Business Leaders of America The Future Business Leaders ofAmerica is a national organiza- tion for all young adults in high school and post-secondary in- stitutions enrolled in business programs. Eastern Wayneis branch ofFBLA consisted offiity-eight members and three advisors: Mrs. J. O,Daniel, Mrs. D. Iohnson, and Mrs. B. Webber. The members were involved in many activities during the 1986-87 school year. Bulletin boards were designed for business honor roll students, a speaker from Hardbarger junior College spoke to the members in April, a Christmas party was held in December at the Colden Corral, visits to area rest homes were made, and FBLA Week was observed. Also, in order to support the club activities and business department, the FBLA Club sponsored a Tom-Wat Sale. Proceeds from the sale went to buy business supplies and sponsor the FBLA Scholarship. membership. The AFS worked hard to promote goodwill and continues to ex- tend its objectives Within the school and community. History Club I The Social Studies Department at Eastern Wayne High had al- ways wanted to establish a History Club. And, since 1987 was the 200th birthday ofthe signing ofthe Constitution, the department realized that it was a perfect time. Though by laws for the Club were not developed, the purpose ofthe Club was determined ATO learn more about America and the Worldf' The sponsors ofthe History Club were Mrs. Cloria Burney and Miss Amelia Dees. The other social studies teachers served as advisors. The Club had eight-one members and met every fourth NVednesday of the month. Definite activities for the year were not determined at the print- ing ofthe yearbook, however, speakers and field trips were possi- bilities. Student Council During the 1986-87 school year, the Eastern VVayne Senior High Student Council perhirmed many activities directed toward promoting better human relations. These activities included service projects for area schools and the needy in the community. A profitable fundraiser for the Council was selling Christmas wrapping paper. Funds raised from this endeaver were used to finance the Councils activities. An activity shared by area schools was hosting an Inter-School Council composed of six students from the four XVayne County High Schools, Wayne Country Day, and Coldsboro Iligh School. The Council strived to promote better relations among the schools. Eastern NVayne served as host in October. To be a member of the Student Council one must be elected, attend all meetings, and support all council activities.
