HOSA members give over 5400. 00 worth oftoys to Major jo Alexander ofthe Salvation Army. Congress in Winston-Salem, and the Allied Health Careers Day in Lenoir County. Under the supervision of Mrs. Nethercutt and with the leader- ship of their president, Diane Langston, they had a prosperous year. The other officers of HOSA this year were Vice President - Dawn Daniels, Historian and Reporter - Michelle john- son, Activity Chairperson - Lori Tilghman, Secretary - Treasurer - Cindy Creech, and President Elect - Lisa Bissette. DRAMA CLUB The 1986-87 Drama Club has made its mark in all aspects of the arts, onstage and off. With the guidance of its sponsor, Mrs. Charlotte Darwin the Drama Club put on the prize winning play Wings. It was presented in Ianuary and was directed by Matthew Ferrell Drama Club President. Other club oificers included David Taylor - Vice President Teri Farmer - Recording Secretary Maureen Holland - Corresponding Secretary Beth Lowry - Treasurer jason Stehly - Program Chairman Ricky Chen - Historian and Mike Straw - Parli- amentarian. The Drama Club held meetings once a month with guest speakers such as Mr. joseph Hoey avisiting instrumental artist at Wayne Community College. Mr. Hoey entertained the members by playing a classical violin and explaining similar comparisons of musicians to instruments and actors to stage. ' ' if ,fi The Science Club sponsored many speakers during the 1986 87 school year and the balloons were sold at a nominal cost to students and staff and were delivered during homeroom or lunch by a club member The sponsor of the club was Mrs Elizabeth jones The officers were Tomasina Rivera President Woody Dexter Vice President Sharon Trivette Secretary and Dee Smith Treasurer The members were Barb Bond will Faircloth Tammy F aucette Uly Russo Jeanne Young Ken Pennington Terri Wall Tonya Tucker Clay Parker Kim Halley Stephanie Hurt Kim Pryor Tammy Smith Kim Hinnant and Lee King HOSA CLUB The Eastern Wayne HOSA Club was one of the most active clubs during the 1986-87 school year. Advising the seventy-five members was Mrs. Sylvia Nethercutt who is in her twelfth year of teaching Health Occupations at Eastern Wayne. Members ofthe club sponsored doughnut sales to raise funds for activities throughout the year. These activities included coll'ecting Christmas stockings for the Salvation Army sending Christmas cards to nursing homes giving the TMR Elementary Class at Eastern Wayne Elementary School a Halloween party, and sponsoring the Red Cross Blood Mobile Drive. HOSA members participated in a number of community events such as the Medical Terminology Spelling Bee at the Wayne County Fair in which Michelle johnson placed third and the group also created a Red Cross display in the Berkeley Mall. Also, they travelled to the State Fair, the HOSA State 156 I Clubs Jenny Carmichael and Beth Lowery sport initiation paintn on Beta Club Initiation Day.

make-up artist. Ms. Dormish demonstrated make-up techniques that should be used on stage during performances. The Drama Club members attended three Center Stage production: Charlie Brown, Camelot, and Shadow Box, all of which were presented at the Center Theatre in Goldsboro. The Drama Club held a Christmas Party and an End-of-the-Year Party for all active Drama Club members. The Eastern Wayne Drama Club has inspired many students, whether in the Theatrical Arts or in a related field. It has given students the knowledge to appreciate the fine arts and understand its background and general make-up from first hand experience. National Honor Society The National Honor Society is one ofthe most important organi- zations at Eastern Wayne High School. It is open to a very select group of students. To be admitted to this organization, a student must maintain a 5.65 quality point average. The student must also be outstanding in the fields ofleadership, service, and character. The Eastern Wayne NHS Chapter members are proud of their accomplishments and strive to reach new heights. NHS meets once a month to plan upcoming activities and service projects. Each year, NHS has served as guides at Governor Charles B. Aycockis Birthplace during Education Week. NHS also took a present to the children at Howellis Child Care Center, co- sponsored the local SADD fStudents Against Driving Drunkj chapter, and acted guides at Eastern Wayneis Open House. The school and the organization are very proud ofthe Eastern Wayne NHS members. To honor an outstanding member, the Eastern Wayne NHS chapter awards a scholarship each year, and, at graduation, satin NHS collars are worn by all members. The members proudly uphold the honor ofthe school and the organiza- tion's motto 'iNoblesse Obligef, Future Farmers of America The 1986-87 Eastern Wayne Future Farmers ofAmerica Chap- ter had an extremely active year. The members participated in many activities such as the District 2 FFA Leadership Workshop, the Federation FFA Planning Meeting, and the North Carolina State Fair. They also held a chapter cookout for new members and sold citrus fruit as a fundraiser. The club won five of the top 15 placings at the Wayne County Fair Livestock Judging Contest and constructed two fair booths concerning Trees Build Our Futurev and UNO Farmers-No Food. U They entered 16 FFA Face-to-Face contests and 29 Profi- ciency Award areas. In September, they attended Open House! Agriculture Education Day at North Carolina State University. In February, they went to the North Carolina Farm Show at the State Fairgrounds. There, they participated in the Tractor and Track Driving contest and workshops.
