fr E 5 ' . Action Is The Name Of The Gamel The 1986 Boys Track Team, coached by Wayne Broadhead, placed third in conference. Seven members ofthe team qualified for sectionals: Chris Daniel in 3200 meter, Pernell Shackleford, 400 meters, Richard McDowell, 100 meters, Matt Bailey, Pole Vault, Robert Bolar, Donnie Gardner, and LaMonte McLaurin, 800 meter relay. Chris Daniel made it to the regionals, along with Pemell Shackleford. With four school records set, Coach Broadhead was proud of his team. Setting these records were Pernell Shackleford with a time of 50.7 in the 400 meters and Chris Daniel, Robert Bolar, LaMonte McLau1in, and Pemell Shackleford with a team of 3137.2 in the mile relay. Five awards were given to these outstanding gentlemen: Coaches Award for Track - Pernell Shackleford, Coaches Award for Field - Matt Bailey, Most Valuable Player - Chris Daniel, Most Dedicated - Robert Bolar, and Most Im- proved - Richard McDowell. The Track Team had a good year thanks to its coach and the great group of athletes. The team members were Matt Bailey, Mark Beckert, Robert Bolar, jeff Britt, Richard Corbett, Chris Daniel, ijllws Tommy Dees, Kenny Durham, Eric Ellmyer, Donnie Gardner, Bill Gibbons, Kevin Grady, Tom Hardy, Mike Henry, Mark Jennings, Mark Klein- schmidt, Paul Lumpkin, josh Marshall, Richard McDowell, LaMonte McLaurin, Dean Odom, Scott Riggs, Darren Rowe, and Pernell Shackle- ford. Those returning Rir the 1987 season will be Mark Beckert, Robert Bolar, Kenny Durham, Eric E11- myer, Bill Gibbons, Kevin Grady, Tom Hardy, Mike Henry, Mark Iennings, Mark Kleinschmidt, Paul Lumpkin, josh Marshall, Lamonte McLaurin, Dean Odom, Nick Smith, Tim Swearingin, and Paul Totter. Eastem Wayne,s Track Team is look- ing forward to another promising year. Training includes long distance running and triple and long jumps each day. During the 1986 Spring season at the cityfcounty meet, josh Marshall and Richard Corbett won awards. These two awards added still more distinction to an illus- trious list. An indoor Track, a first at Eastem Wayne, was started in December. This type of sport is sure to gain much support in the years to come. Girls Track Aims For The Top The 1986 Girls Track Team aimed for the top. They succeeded by qualifying for the secionals in discus, triple jump, and the 1600 meter run. Michelle Smith placed Bfth in the 3200 meter run which qualified her for Regionals. Lisa Allen placed second in the 100 meter dash, third in the 100 meter hurdles, and third in the 300 meter hurdles, all of which qualified her to compete on the State level. Led by Coaches Mike Ward and Joe Terrel, the girls placed fourth out of seven teams in the confer- ence meet. Qualifying for the sectionals, the regionals, and the State was great achievement, 9 stated Coach Mike Ward.
