Basketball Warrior Basketbal The 1986-87 year looked promising tor the Eastern NVayne Warrior Basket- ball Team. With several returning varsity players, the starting team, con- sisting of all seniors, played well together despite not having a gym in which to practice. Beturning seniors were Chris Bowers, Clay Parker, Mike Parks, and Adrian Worrells. Mark Yeaky, a senior transfer from South Bend, Indiana, was a great asset to the team. uThe team has many talented players, but Welve had so many injuries and other little thingsf' Coach Howard Austin said. uHowever, We,ve decided to use them as learning experiencesf, The team played an outstanding game against S. Wayne, a long time rival. The final score was 62-51. The 1986-87 junior Varsity Football Team, coached by Howard Austin, had a very successful year. Its record was 5-5, with a 4-3 conference re- cord. The team had a chance to tie and even win the confer- ence title, but didnt Three out of four losses were by a total of eleven points. Coach Austin stated, This year's team has the potential of being an outstanding varsity squad with a lot of hard work. Outstanding talent is in all positions from running back to defensive linef, The top defensive players were Alex Cox, Gary Cox, Ioe Dimorier, Clarence Ham- ilton, Alex Hayden, Tim jones, Robert Medica, jim Musgrow, Chad Smith, and Mark Walker. Our team has played great Rmotball this year. Weire really hitting the weights. We'll be ready for varsity next year. Thanks goes to Coach Austin, Hendrix, Lewis, and Kellyli' stated Alex Hayden. The top defensive players were Cary Barnes, Nicky Cianfarra, Lee Downs, Earn- est Humble, jay Meade, Keith Mitchell, and Greg Morgan. jay Meade said, uThis year our team had its slow moments, but we came alive towards mid-season to lead to the best record ever at Eastern Wayneli' The team's best game was against Goldsboro, Eastern Wayne's biggest rival.
