Dr. Aikawa speaks to the college assem- bly about the problems of Christian Edu- cation in post-war Japan. r?-Omvm zo-thoezon A special Convocation was held in the College gymnasium on January 17, 1963. On this occasion; the honorary Doctor of Law degree was presented'to Mr. Takaaki Aikawa, Christian educator, of Japan. Several members of the Eastern faculty were also honored for academic acc'omplishrnent in graduate study. Dr. Margaret Ferre receives congratulations for the completion of her PhD. in German. Mr. Aikawa receives the honorary degree from Dean Garrett.

The administration, during the formative years of the school, realized that in the life of each Christian there is a need for times of spiritual re- freshment and renewal. At the beginning of the sec- ond semester a single week is set aside for the pur- pose of self-exarnination and a deepening dedication of life and talents to Christ.
