eachers College High School is I operated as a part of the East- ern Illinois State Teachers College, and serves primarily as a high school wherein college students are given practice in teaching. The school is a regular four year high school, recognized by the State Department, and accredited by the University of Illinois and the North Central Association of Colleges and Sec- ondary Schools. The staff consists of a corps of critic teachers, each unusually well trained and experi- enced. Teachers College High School is proud of her scholastic and extra-curricular record. From her beginning nineteen years ago, her graduates have consistently pre- dominated the college honor rolls. Recently, we have but to recall the splendid showing in scholar- ship, speech, music, and athletics. Eighty-four on a scale of one hun- dred in the University of Iowa scholarship examinations for 1935- 36, winner of the district basket- ball tournament for the last two years, winner of the music and literary section ofthe Eastern Illi- nois High School League for the last two years, winner of the sweepstakes trophy for the East- ern Illinois League for 1935-36, a first and a second in the State Speech contests,-these are but a few outstanding achievements that come to our attention. Teachers College High School is indeed proud of her accomplishments of the past, and looks to the future with conhdence and determination. We are proud to be associated with this fine institution. -Donald A. Rothschild. Mr. Donald A. Rothschild, Ph.D. He is never too busy to help us, too tired to be kind, too reserved to be a pal, or too remote to understand us.

Illnnm 1 mvnig- inn In lofty oak-beamed halls the Danes of ancient times Sat 'round rough tables wrapt in fellowship. The nut brown mead they quaffed and rnade the rafters shake With laughter at rough jokes. Within their mighty hearts welled pride and love of home When gleemen, harp-accompanied, sang the vic- tory song Or told of ancient treks to far-off lands, Of how the shield-protected galleys bit the white- capped waves And bore them on the quest to lands unknown. The white-beards of the clan good counsel gave To young men great in courage but foolhardy. They bade them iight with skill and cunning, With noble pur-pose and with high intent, But never treat a foe dishonorably. So We, the Viking band that lives today, Should profit by examples so well set, Enjoy our meeting hall, a place of work and play ' combined, Sing 'lustily and chant the victory song, Learn to taste defeat as sportingly, Enjoy good fellowship And profit by advice of those who know. -john MacGregor fllilain Euilhing Q 33.133

hether the history is modern or ancient, Miss Ellington can always be counted on for valu- able data. She is ever willing to grace a social function or to give helpful suggestions to her Junior class. The difficult task of getting Caesar in and out of Gaul in his native language falls on Miss Carman. Football games are usually too cold for her, but she seldom misses a basketball game. With the new gym, she'l1 become a rabid fan. Miss Marks requires no introduction. The pleasing way in which she tempers botanical facts with a quiet friendliness makes her more than just another teacher . Miss Hostetler, while rather modest and retir- ing herself, is an extremist when it comes to class. She has forty enrolled in one class and live in another. Like her colleague, Miss Ellington, Miss Neely hails from the Southland. My, how we like her accent and flashing wit! She is our Confederate in all school activities. Miss Hendrix is a versatile person. She not only balances equations, but balances herself on a horse with equal ease. As Sophomore adviser she has helped put the class on the map. Mes amis, allow me to present Mademoiselle Michael, Parisian of renown and sponsor of the National Honor Society. Her charm and smile make her a friend of the students. With that radio in his Chevvy and his ready wit to freshen some air wave comedians' stale jokes, Mr. Dickerson has been the chauffeur of the speech students.. He is, however, shared by the whole school in his assembly pep talks, and in his typing class. The coaches., Miss Poos for speech, and Mr. Van Horn for athletics, are largely responsible for the additions to the trophy case. Both are capable, generous, and hard-working. The question in our minds is how long they can continue at their present rate of speed without nervous breakdowns. High Svrhnnl Eliarulig af' . 11-,g',lfii?35':3 it ern it Sl
