Sfnnr 11,0 Administrator Dr. A. Sngenc' ,Mann Dr. A. Eugene Mann, director of University Relations, came to Eastern 22 years ago from Western State College of Colorado, Gunnison. He holds degrees from Southwestern State Col- lege, Weatherford, Okla., B.S.5 Western State College, M.A., and Colorado State College, Ed.D. TO MEET the demands of Eastem New Mexico Uni- versity, its rapid growth, and its future development, four vice presidents have been announced by President Charles W. Meister. The promotion of four administra- tors has been under a study for sometime by the board of regents and the president. Effective july 1, 1967, the new vice presidents will be Gene W. Harrell, now business manager, Dr. A. Dr. Gail Snnnnon Dr. Gail Shannon has served as dean of aca- demic allairs at Eastern since 1960. His degrees include the bachelor of science from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, M.A. and Ph.D., Ohio State University. Dr. Shannon, who has also been dean of graduate studies, came to Eastern from the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Charles Meister is a busy man, but never too busy not to allow time for getting acquainted with new students and their parents. Personal and professional success was Dr. Charles W. Meister's wish to the students of Eastern New Mexico University when he accepted his post in the fall of 1965. Now in the spring of 1967, Dr. Meister is completing his second successful year at Eastern. During his first year, he developed friendships with the students by his concern with their problems. His second year at Eastern saw the completion of the new Physical Education Com- plex and the proposal of a new Education Building. Dr. Meister is well qualified for his position of president by his varied degrees. He received his B.A. degree from Central YMCA College, Chicago, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Dr. Meister is an authority on the Russian novelist and playwright, Chekhov, besides being a professor in English. Dr. Meister came to Eastern from Arizona State College, F lagstaili, Arizona, where he was academic vice president and dean of instruction. President Meister had much past experience in public relations by serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also deputy U.S. Representative for Education and Religion Affairs for the F our-Power Agency goveming Berlin, at the end of World War II.

Harrell will continue to serve as business manager. Dr. Sdgur lf. Petty Dr. Edgar L. Petty became dean of students in 1965 after the death of Dr. Cary R. Anderson. Coming to Eastern in 1962 from the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Petty joined the School of Educa- tion and Psychology faculty and was acting chair- man of the Department of Psychology when ap- pointed dean of students. Degrees held by Dr. Petty include the B.A., Oklahoma Baptist Universityg Ed.M. and Ed.D., University of Oklahoma. Gene W. J-fezrrell Gene Harrell has been a member of the Eastern staff since 1956. He earned his bachelor of science degree at Oklahoma, State University and the master of arts and educational specialist degrees at Eastern.
