COSSARD, OUR DEAN AND FRIEND, WE, THE STUDENTS OF EAST- ERN NEW MEXICO COLLEGE DEDICATE THE 1947-48 SILVER PACK As he retires from the dean's position this spring to complete a 50-year teaching career. in 1949, may we say that his contributions to ENMC as dean and as teacher will be remembered. His enthusiasm, sincerity, intelligence, and graciousness make him not only one of the best teachers ever, and a good counsellor, but also a fine fellow just to know. We feel that Dr. Gossard can, indeed, claim what every man seeks: success in his chosen career. FOREWORD In this, the first full year our Alma Mater has been accredited with North Central Association, we pay special tribute to the college itself and to its contributions in the field of higher learning. Educa- tion has been established as the saviour of the world from strife and turmoil, and it is to this cause that ENMC has been dedicated the past nine months and every year since its founding. It is not for us to say that 1947-48 has been the greatest in the history of ENMC, but certainly its achievements cannot be over- shadowed by past or future events. Besides the advancements made in scholarship and in training men and women to create a better world, the highlight of these two semesters, perhaps, is the tangible evidence of the ENMC building program. With the addi- tion of the gymnasium, the quadrangle building, the infirmary, an agriculture building, an industrial arts shop, and a little theatre, plus the enlargement of the South Dormitory, ENMC can, at last, SHOW the public, rather than tell it, of its expansion plans. We could not possibly include every event of the past year within the annual, but in the following pages we have done our best to give you a pictorial review of some of the accomplishments, the fun, the work, and the everyday life on the campus of ENMC in 1947-48. JACK SPENCE GLENN STALEY Clovis Portales Portales Carlsbad Hobbs Secy.-Treas. Chairman Vice-Chairman T e President To the Students of 1947-48: ' Congratulations to the entire student body upon the excellent achievements during 1947-481 I believe this has been the most successful academic year in the history of Eastern New Mexico College. . We have had a better college newspaper as well as a better year book. All phases of our academic program have progressed ,toward greater achievements. Our facilities, such as buildings and equipment, have more than doubled. By next September, we shall have facilities on the campus of Eastern New Mexico College to accommodate some twelve to sixteen hundred students. No institution is stronger than its students and faculty. In my opinion, we have had a far better student body and a better prepared and qualified faculty. Therefore, with theseladvan- tages plus the added advantages in facilities and equipment ENMC should go forward at a very rapid rate. My best personal regards are extended to every member of the student body. Sincerely yours, fSignedl Floyd D. Colden President 95' ' : .:-. FG A GHSOH Despite a lack of experienced squadmen, the Eastern New Mexico College Greyhounds returned to winning ways on the gridiron in 1947 with a record of five games won and four lost. The successful season marked the first winning year for the Pack since 1939 and indicated the wholesale return of manpower to the campus for the first time since the war drained the athletic FBSCTVCS. The squad, composed mainly of freshmen and sprinkled with only a few experienced lettermen, finished fourth in the New Mexico conference with a record of three games won and three lost. The Greyhounds defeated Panhandle ASIM, New Mexico Teachers, and Highlands. They lost to the Sul Ross Champions, Adams State, and NMMI.
