In this age when the means of carrying out success ful warfare are planned ln the laboratory and on the drafting boards, as well as at military head- quarters, it is obvious that the preservation of peace depends upon a highly educated citizenry which thoroughly understands and appreciates the havoc that another war would bring. In New Mexico we are demanding that every indi- vidual, who so desires--especially those who served in the armed forces of our countryf-have the opportunity to attend an institution of higher learning. I want to congratulate the many veterans who have realized the importance of completing their formal education and have entered, or re-entered, our colleges and universities. By so doing they are contributing not only to their own future welfare, but to the safety and well-being of our nation as a whole.
