The Women's League The Women's League aims are to help its members by providing a means tor all Women students on campus to participate in student government, offer- ing an opportunity for membership in group activities, and maintaining high standards in college life. lt also provides an opportunity to practice techniques of friendliness, leadership, cooperation and democracy. Since its first year in 1919, the League has been a member of the National Intercollegiate Association of Women Students. This successful year at E.M.C. was highlighted by the senior dessert, senior breakfast, Harvest Hop, League Lark, a helping 'hand in orientation, and participation in many forums. Every Woman on campus belongs to the Women's League. The Dean of Women, Susan B. Hill, and Assistant Dean oi Women, Helen Rudin, are its ad- visors. The group chose Ann Hosie to lead them as president through this past year. THE MEN'S UNION Every man enrolled at Eastern Michigan College is a member of the Men's Union. Iames Brown, Dean of Men and William Crane, Assistant Dean of Men, are the advisors. The men elect their own officers and were led by President Bill Graham this year. The Men's Union strives to improve the social life of its members, assist them with their problems, and intensify their interests in student affairs in cr co- operative manner. It works with manyhother campus organizations to promote a democratic spirit of fellowship. Some of the functions undertaken by the 1956-1957 Union and which helped to make it successful were: The Mad Man's Marathonp films of the homecoming game, parade and other homecoming activities, Yule Loq Draq and Christmas party. SENIOR CLASS The Senior Class led by a roster of capable officers has completed its last year with a fine record. The class has participated in many campus activities including the Christmas Sing and Homecoming, but the final days before Commencement have been the busiest. Trying to maintain the tradition and ceremony which is synonymous with graduation, the officers and committees have worked hard to make the Senior Dinner Dance and Commencement days for all to recall with fond memories in future years. lst. eal Aiken nn Arbor eqree only Alan Bulhon Dearborn 1 v 2'- -W' 'lm if 45 elllh arlo Bersam rosse Pointe Ir -Sr Hrqh ea.. The games begin in the Fall with football and soccer. During the winter, bowling, basketball, swimming, table tennis and volleyball make use of campus facilities. Softball, tennis and horseshoes are the athletic events in the springtime. A program of this type with over 1,500 participating would be too much for one man. The Edwin A. Strong Physical Science building and an adjoining science lecture hall are expected to be completed for the opening of classes in September. The science building will house the college's physics and chemistry departments. Also under construction are two dormitories and a kitchen-dining room unit of a women's residence hall complex which are to be ready for use next fall. Construction of the third of four dormitories in the project is slated for completion by September, 1958. With the increasing number of married students, the college also has under construction 96 apartments for married students in Pine Grove Terrace. The completion of plans and the start of construction on a gymnasium physical education classroom building, a fine and industrial arts building, a class- room wing for the new physical science building, a teacher education classroom building, an instruc- tional services building, a liberal arts classroom building, an addition to the college library and a biological sciences building are in the future for EMC. This year plans were announced for a large-scale building package to be financed by bonds issued against student fees. Included in this package are anew health service, a theater and dramatic arts building and conversion of the present health service to a music building. 0 Index P Alpha Gamma Upsilon . . .
