Step by step we have risen on the ladder of knowledge. Slowly and te- diously we have tried to make our school one of high standards and one of which to be proud. Now we are faced with the many new problems and challenges of today's world. It is imperative that we use our previously acquired knowledge for the advancement of our society. VVhatever our individual goal, we must constantly bear in mind that it is impossible to achleve anything significant lf it is no achieved step by step. Alma illiutvr To thee dear Alma Mater, VVe lift our hearts in song The knowledge and the glories The victories go on. NVe honor and revere thee, Recalling days gone bye Qur memories live for evermore, To thee dear Elco High. 512115 ' UYUUBH QD111' Administration Faculty Seniors Iuniors 9 Sophomores 4 H H Freshmen Grades 8 or 7 Activities Athletics 3 Wifi' W X, Vw ga an 1' 3 5 I W ww 'lp w he 4 mp. f H gr m. MW MR. LEE ECK Supervising Principal Eastern Lebanon County School District DEDICATION We, the class of 1966, gratefully dedicate our yearbook, the Sigma 66, to Mr. Lee Eck, surpervising principal of the Eastern Lebanon County joint School System. After forty-four years as an administrator of our schools, Mr. Eck will retire on june 30, 1966. During those years he has had to contend not only with problems facing any principal, but also more recently with the forming of a jointure, the building of a new school, equipping and stalling it, and preparing a totally new curriculum. He has surmounted these problems With his excellent administrative ability, determination and foresight, bringing our school to its present excellent standards and enabling the members of our class to meet the challenge of the future. 4- .faiafg-wf it I AD MINISTRA TION Mr. Walter VV. BOARD OF EDUCATIO To the class of ,66 When at the beginning of your public school education you looked up to those big', boys and girls in high school, the steps ahead seemed like twelve giant ones. You did not know how you could climb from where you were to where they Were, because your legs were so short. But you did, and as you look back, the strides do not seem nearly so enormous. Up to this point you have been stepping in the footprints of designated leaders - your parents, your teachers and others. The path, for the most part has not been of your own choosing. High school graduation, however, is like a fork in the road. To be sure, you will still be walking in another's footprints, but largely the choice is yours. Your Board of Education has endeavored to lay the course with due responsibility. We commend you for taking the steps to completion and hope that all succeeding steps shall be taken with conviction and firmness. Iames D. Yoder, Pres. Elco joint School Board FACULTY Mr. Il. Their purpose was to determine what they would be doing in the future, after their graduation. The large silent circle of students clustered around the stooped form of the old lady sitting in front of her tent. Before her was a brilliant crystal ball. She gazed intently into the ball for sev- eral seconds and then raised her head. She stared hard at the class for several sec- onds then her cracked lips parted and she spoke with the wisdom of the ages. I seef' she said in a high, shrill voice, c'Buzzard May as head dance instructor at the Dietrich Memorial Ballet School and live former soccer players named joel Mil- ler, Snap Zimmerman, Eric Ream, Harold Haag, and Harry Walmer attending class- es there. Five girls are still in charm school - Esther Salem, jackie Lutz, Bonnie Hippert, Sandy Shanaman, and Sue Eblingf, I see a barber shopfhair salon run by Lynn Ondrusek, jim Strobel, and Linda Rhoads. There are six customers inside named Steve Scipioni, jay Kegerreis, Kerry Batdorf, Donald Sands, Glenn Smith, and Lee Strausef' I hear a radio playing in the shop. I hear a big record sung by the Idle-Vise Sin- gers whose members are Mike Huber, Nancy Ziegler, Irene Long, and Anne Strick- er. I hear a hymn sung by a church choir next. The choir is directed by janie Yeag- ley with Carolyn Sonnon playing the piano. Two of the singers are Brenda XVhite and Karen Weikf, 'KI hear next on the radio a sports show. The sportscaster is Bill F orry, I hear that five former students were at a jockey Union banguet. They are Gery Foulk, Ralph Miller, Dennis Fertig, Bill Snoke and Paul Schae erf, I hear at Wimbleton, two former students face each other - Park Haverstick and Larry Straussf' I see the annual Olympics being held in Moscow. Several former students have gotten gold medals. Gary Miller is receiving one in pole vaulting, Sally Botz is re- ceiving one for swimming, and Charlie Weigley is receiving one for the 180 meter race. I see a baseball game. Three great players are playing. Ed Swisher, Monk Trout- man, and the pitcher, Tom Goodison. The president of the National League is talk- ing about Tom. - i'He,s a good pitcher when it comes to milk. I see the Inquirer track meet in Philadelphia. Four girl runners have just beat out all others and took the first four places in the womenis 100 meter. They were Sally Ressler, Sylvia Weaver, Karen Angstadt, and Lorraine Weidman. I see an American girls hockey team touring Europe. It's being managed by Car- ol Bucher. Two former Elco players are on the team - Yvonne Hoffman and janie Bucherfi I see jimmy Gibble has just won the PGA. Sandy Brightbill has just bowled a perfect game at Highway Lanes, Myerstownf, I see George jury, David Bucher, and Charlie Hibshman lining up their cars at the Indy 5007 HI see a demolishion derb . Four drivers have been battling for three hours. Rex Border, Howard Kramer, jeff Erhart, and Lyle Bashoref' I see a library.
