President Robert R. Martin Mr. J. C- Powell The President Eastern ' s sixth president assumed office July 1, 1960, to become the first alumnus ever to head the 55-year old college, after having established a brilliant record with the State Department of Education and the State Department of Finance in Frankfort. President Martin has devoted his entire life to the task of improving education in Kentucky and took over the reigns of Eastern with the greatest challenge in his- tory facing her. Immediately upon assuming office, GROWTH was the by-word as he began a gigantic expansion program that made na- tion-wide news. Eastern ' s recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus award in 1956, the President has been a human dynamo, his energetic per- sonality teaming with a genuine desire to build a bigger and greater Eastern. President Martin was a leader in the drafting of the Foundation Program for Education Law and worked for its enactment at the General Assembly. As Superintendent of Public Instruction, he administered and implemented the law. As commissioner of Finance he supervised the preparation of the Executive Budget which provided for the highest level of financial support for educa- tion in the state ' s history. Executive Assistant J. C. Powell, executive assistant to the President, came to Eastern last July from Frankfort, where he had served as the Director of the Division of Records and Reports for the State Department of Education. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and received the master ' s degree from the University of Louisville. He assists the President in all adminis- trative matters.

The Business Office Mr. G. M. Brock, Business Agent, Director of Purchasing and Stores, heads the new business organ- ization of the college. He is responsible for all financial functions and records of the school. Mr. G. M. Brock Mr. Rolph Conlee, Director of Build- ings and Grounds, came to Eastern from Frankfort where he served as Maintenance Engineer for the State Department of Finance. Mr. Conlee, who began his duties at Eastern in July, is responsible for the mainte- nance and upkeep of the beautiful Eastern campus. Mr. James 0. King, Director of Auxiliary Enterprises and Services, came to Eastern from Frankfort where he served as Budget Analyst in the Kentucky Department of Parks. Mr. King is in charge of the business aspects of those enterprises involv- ing housing, food, bookstore, con- cessions as well as many other things. Mr. Charles A. Ross, Director of Division of Accounting and Budgetary Control, serves as accountant and bookkeeper. Mr. Larry Martin, left, Assistant Di- rector of Buildings and Grounds, is an Eastern graduate. His goal is the improvement of the Eastern compus. Mr. E. B. Nolan, right, is the Cashier of the Business Office. He readily gives his patience to a demanding position.
