Two long-awaited events took place-the High- land Fling and ordering of senior rings. Many students and teachers Worked hard and long to achieve the first successful talent show. Seniors brought deposits and ordered 1960 class rings. Beards, boots, cowboy hats and chaps became the mode for Ranch Day. After completing a good season in football, the team proudly put on the first blue and gray letter jackets which had just been presented to them in assembly. Eastern Hills' first graduate, Milton Strange, received his diploma in a special assembly. During Public School Week, visitors poured into the school for an Open House on Monday night sponsored by the P.T.A. and Boosters, Club. Y-Teens raised money at the April in Parisi' dance to pay for baseball uni- forms. Y-Teens also presented L'Welcome to Springf, a fashion show carried out through a Japanese theme. Miss Bakeris chorus presented a religious Easter pro- gram just before the Easter holidays. Wooden boxes painted gray with blue drawings of the school and athletic activities, were made and filled with useful ar- ticles for overseas shipment by the Red Cross. A number of trophies and cups were presented to the school by all who had earned them. Need- ham was a co-captain and three year letterman for Eastern Hills. Highlander Finish George Cotter goes up against Castleberry in the first half district play. The Highlanders over- came Castleherry in a one game play-off 42-39, and took the first half championship. Cotter, the only starting junior on the squad, filled in the center slot and was one of the top rebounders for the Highlanders. A driving lay-up brings two points for the Highlanders as Weldon Ward goes alone against Laneri. Ward was the playmaker for the Highlanders this year and lettered for his third year. He was elected co-captain and showed his lead- ership with steady playing the entire season. Second In District Tiuett Absher defends in pre-district play against Laneri. Bouncing back from a previous loss to the Ravens, the High- landers took the game 55-39. Hills Nine Place Second l Under the leadership of Coach Bill Elliott, the baseball team had a suc- cessful season ending with a 22-7 record. Eastern Hills squeezes in a run to prolong a late inning loss to Carrollton in the tough doubleheader that wound up the '60 sea- son for the Highlanders. With smart playing and hustling most of these players in the past three years have compiled tremendous record of 100 wins and 25 losses.
