Miss Freda Egbert, who has been our vice-princi- pal since February, 1939, has had a varied career. She came to Eastern on an auspicious day, No- vember l1, 1918, to become a teacher of English and iournalism. The first iournalism class at Eastern, in fact, was taught by Miss Egbert, and she was also faculty adviser to the student publications. Miss Egbert's scholastic and professional train- ing have also been varied, for she has studied at the Universities of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Har- vard, and American, but finished the work for her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at George Wash- ington. As vice principal Miss Egbert has had the con fidence and interest of the students an ability for which she was well known as o teacher and en abled them to make more successful adlustments and solutions to their social problems as well as to the academic lain, Coming to Eastern as our vice principal in the fall of 1940 Mr Nathaniel Danowsky soon be came a familiar and friendly figure in the halls and activities of the school Educated in the state of Pennsylvania where he obtained both his degrees from Susquehanna Uni versity he taught school in that state a number of years Then during the first World War he entered the Army Air Corps in which he remained a year Following his war service Mr Danowsky re turned to teaching in his native state and later became principal of one of the high schools Previous to his appointment at Eastern as vice principal Mr Danowsky was with the Department of Statistics of the District Board of Education Through his impartial and experienced under standing of students interests and activities Mr Danowsky s counsel and assistance have been of valuable and to the school in the brief time he has been here 7 Miss FREDA D EGBERT MR NATHANIEL DANOWSKY
